Xbox Series X Not Installing or Updating Games, Slow Processing

Ok, I’ve had my series X since around the time it was released and I’ve had no problems with it until recently when my warranty expired. It all started with the system update in early January. After updating the system, my games would not load. It would say “you need this update but we can’t get it right now. try again in a while”. I also couldn’t update or install any games. It would start updating/installing and show the download speed but then the download speed would decrease in a matter of seconds then the game would stop installing. The network connection was good and my NAT type was open. I tried mobile hotspot and it worked for a while then it stopped. I tried wired connection, same thing happened. Then there was also the issue of the Xbox processing things slowly. It would take a minute or two for it to connect to my Bluetooth headset, I couldn’t open Microsoft store, access Xbox Assist, etc. The settings wouldn’t even load! I have contacted Xbox support thru phone and thru Twitter about this issue and have done all the possible troubleshoots and the problem still persist! I have done the whole power cycle troubleshoot, hard reset, cleared MAC address, offline system update, etc. I even contacted my ISP and had them open up the necessary ports and still nothing. I am beyond frustrated at this point. I invested in getting this Series X, I refuse to pay nearly $400 to have it looked at when it was working fine before my warranty expired.

I have been loyal to Xbox for years and NEVER had a problem. I’m starting to regret upgrading to the Series X.

Anyways, if anyone knows a fix to this, please let me know.

It looks like you did every procedure that is recommended in those situations, and even after doing so, your console still presents the same behaviour. :/

When that happens, usually is a hardware issue, J3SSICV.

In that case, what you could do as well is look for a repair gaming store in your region and take your console to be checked without compromise, just to know where exactly the issue lies. And also to know if it's worth to repair it with Microsoft or via the repair store.

Your drive will work the same on Series X as it does on Xbox One and you won't need to format it.

However, Series X games or Xbox One games with Series X enhancements will not run from that drive and will either need to be installed internally or to an external SSD designed for Series X/S.

Your hard drive will be too slow for Series X games. They can be stored there, but not run from there.

Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

As an example...

I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

For those with the disc version who are still experiencing slow install/updates ...

Try installing the disk why not connected to Xbox LIVE, once done, connect and download any updates for the game, this has helped speed up the process for others.

Hi,

External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.
