  1. Xbox Series X Monitor Refresh Rates

    Hi,

I'm running an ACER VG270UP 27" IPS monitor 1440p 144hz, the user manual says it supports 120hz through the HDMI 2.0 port on the monitor. However in my TV/Display settings I have no option to set the refresh rate to 120hz when using the 'Auto' setting in
Video fidelity & overscan, do you know why that is?

When i go into 'Video fidelity & overscan' and override the settings to 'HDMI' it'll let me select refresh rate to 120HZ but only in 1080p.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Linke to my monitors user guide: https://global-download.acer.com/GDFiles/Document/User%20Manual/User%20Manual_Acer_1.0_A_A.pdf?acerid=636737023487403277&Step1=MONITOR&Step2=VG%20SERIES&Step3=VG270U&OS=ALL&LC=en&BC=ACER&SC=EMEA_27

    Thanks,

    Aaron

    :)

Will Xbox provide a fix for HDMI 2.0 144hz monitor to support 1440p 120hz/VRR OS Display Settings

Unlikely, as there is no purposes in doing so. as no Xbox software renders above 60hz. Your monitor already scales and doubles to a fixed refresh rate anyway. If you want high refresh rates you need to use a pC or possibly waiting for Series X
Understandable but the xbox one x does not even allow me to select 1440p option with VRR via freesync for my monitor. Shouldnt it work so games capped at 60 fps are matching with the monitors refresh rate if frames increase or decrease?

Why is my variable refresh rate greyed out on my Xbox Series X?

    Hello Mitchell_244,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I can see that you are having trouble with the variable refresh rate option on your Xbox Series X. I understand that you have a Sceptre monitor (E275B-QPN168) that supports 1440p resolution and 120 hz refresh rate, and that you have checked the video settings and the HDMI port on your console and monitor.

There are a few possible reasons why the variable refresh rate option might be greyed out on your Xbox Series X. One of them is that your monitor might not support variable refresh rate over HDMI 2.0, which is the standard that the Xbox Series X uses. According to the Sceptre website, your monitor supports FreeSync Premium over DisplayPort 1.4, but it does not specify if it supports it over HDMI 2.0 as well. You can try contacting Sceptre customer service to confirm this information.

Another possible reason is that your monitor might have a firmware issue that prevents it from enabling variable refresh rate with the Xbox Series X. Some users have reported that updating the firmware of their monitors solved this problem. You can check if there is a firmware update available for your monitor on the Sceptre website or by contacting Sceptre customer service.

You reach out to them here: Support - Contact Us. (sceptre.com)

A third possible reason is that your HDMI cable might not be compatible with variable refresh rate. You need to use a high-speed HDMI cable that supports HDMI 2.0 or higher to enable this feature on your Xbox Series X. You can try using a different HDMI cable or testing your cable on another device that supports variable refresh rate.

We're looking forward to hearing from you. If there are any inquiries about our description or if there are any misconceptions, do reply to the post.

Does a 144hz monitor still work on the Xbox Series X will it detect?

Hi, Casper. My name is Ron, I'm an independent advisor. I will be more than happy to help you.

The 144 Hz monitor should work fine with an Xbox Series X console. Make sure you set the refresh rate properly in the Xbox Series X settings.
