It's not a different color flicker. The color is consistent. It kind of makes the borders of objects "vibrate", so to speak. It's hard to describe. If I'm walking towards something, the object will flicker from far away, but if I walk right in front of an
object, the flickering is low to none.

nope, most if not all current games on xbox one will be playable on the series x, eventually there will be games release just for the series x and they wont be playable on previouse console versions.

Xbox one s and Xbox one X are the same family, series x will be the new console and eventually (a couple of years down the line hopefully) games will only be release on the series x family so the xbox one x will not be able to play them.

Can you describe the flicker, is it just like a different color flicker, or does it appear to just be similar to a glitch flicker, like your seeing past the background environment?

not sure if the flickering is the same. But i have a sony 4k with HDR and when ever i am playing games i will get flickering., The screen does no flicker as in a HDMI problem as in turning on and off. It's more like the color flickering from dark to light
really fast. But If I turn off 4k on the Xbox it will correct the problem.

Direct X is the reason the Xbox is called the X box coz the old xbox has direct x
