Xbox Series X Halo Infinite Limited Edition - Occasional crashes/freezes

    Hey,

I'm posting this here because I genuinely don't know what else to do, I purchased a brand new xbox series x halo infinite edition on the 25th of November - I live in New Zealand so I had to wait an extra 10 days to get mine. And for the most part it works great. However, there is still something off about it that's giving me serious anxiety.

I've had this for almost 2 months now, and in that 2 months I've had a game crash/freeze on me a total of three times. At first I thought it was just a problem with the game I was playing - which was Halo Infinite, but yesterday I was playing Life Is Strange: True Colors and my game froze while I was in the middle of playing Foosball. Now admittedly, this problem isn't nearly as severe as some other cases I've seen - I've seen some cases of peoples' consoles crashing/freezing consistently every few games and thankfully, I don't have that issue. I'm usually able to play for my normal duration (Which is around an hour and a half to two hours) without any issues. And even right after this last crash happened, I was able to hop on Halo Infinite multiplayer and play for over 2 and a half hours. So what I'm really getting at is that this console is by no means unplayable; but it's still giving me serious anxiety nonetheless - especially considering it's a limited edition console and from what I've seen so far, if anything does go seriously wrong with it, then there's a good chance that sending it in will get me a regular series x - not a replacement limited edition one. Even though my limited edition console costed $100 NZD more than a regular series x, so right away there's a problem with that. And on top of all of that, I really don't know if this problem is severe enough to even take that risk in the first place, or if it'll get worse over time or if it'll more or less stay the way it is now. Because the way it is now, I would say this problem is more of a mild inconvenience than anything. But it's the fear of it getting worse that's really getting to me.

Honestly, this whole thing has just created so much stress and anxiety for me. I waited SO long for this limited edition console and was so happy when I finally got my hands on one only for it to be flawed. Honestly, this whole experience has probably ruined any chance of me getting anything limited edition ever again. If it was a regular series x, then I'd have no problem sending it in and getting a replacement. But the fact that it's the limited edition and I probably won't get another one if I send it in, it really doesn't leave me with a lot of options. I'm kind of left to accept the fact that I have a flawed console and just pray that it doesn't get any worse.

And you wanna know the worst part? I had a PS5 (Both disc and digital) AND a regular series x before this that I actually sold in order to be able to afford this one and I NEVER had any issues with any of those. Hell, even my Nintendo Switch which I brought pre-owned for $350 from a pawn shop doesn't have this issue. I just seriously wanna know how something like this happens, I wanna believe that there's nothing wrong with my console and that it's just the games themselves, but the more I think about it, the more that doesn't quite add up because surely it would be more of a widely reported issue for those games if that were the case? I dunno man, I don't know how these things work. I just really don't know what else to do at this point.

With all that being said, I performed a factory reset on my console yesterday after my last game froze. I haven't had much time to really evaluate if it's made any difference but I guess we'll see. What do you guys think? Do you think there's something wrong with my console? Is it normal for games to crash every once in a while?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

    :)

    Hello jarrodkerwin,

I am sorry to hear you are having issues with your new console. I understand the worry about sending out your console. Limited edition accessories such as controllers, headsets, and consoles are limited production items that may not be available in stock for replacement in an acceptable time or permanently.

You can try these troubleshooting steps listed in this article here: Troubleshoot game issues on Xbox | Xbox Support

If you honestly believe there may be hardware issues with your console, I advise you to reach out to Contact us | Xbox Support and explain the situation and see if they can help with exchange.

    Warm regards,

Thank you for your assistance, I feel a bit better now knowing that it's most likely the games, not my console.

    Hey man,

I also have the same problem. But i did notice that if you download the halo infinite game that came with the console, it will crash. I was only able to play 1 or 2 matches and it just close the game or shut the console. I also play the campaign and still crash on me for 5 to 10 minutes. I also notice the series x gets a little hot than usual. I tried to follow all the trouble shoot and still does the same. It affected the other games I am playing like CODWZ or APEX or GTA. It just CRASHES. I did feel that it was a waste to buy the LE console which if you ask MS to fix it, they will issue you a not guarantee LE. It so sad.

Anyways, I reseted the whole console without downloading the halo. Left it to play COD for almost 24 hours and it was still on. AMAZING right. Well I have not use my series X since then. I might be wrong but I have not download the game(halo) since. The console stayed nice and cool. Didnt have that hot feeling to it. I guess try and let me know if the problem is the same.

At microsoft, if you are reading this, please help us and please have a better help section that i/we can actually talk to a human and not computer. Its so hard to get a hold of you. Questions after questions and most of the time its not related to my problem. Calling the direct line and it just sends us back here to square one, which is not help what so ever. Well i know you wont care since, we still support you and we dont matter you guys anyways.

    okay rant is over.

    Hey, thanks for your reply.

What I'm really getting at is that I don't know if this problem is bad enough to even take that risk. Or even if it IS a problem in the first place, is it normal for series x optimized games to crash and freeze every so often as long as it doesnt happen all the time? Because as I said, the games run smooth most of the time and I'm able to play for hours. And the games themselves run smooth and don't have any issues like frame drops or the console making any weird noises. Because I'd be willing to accept that if that were the case.

Sorry, I realize my post is kind of all over the place. But I really want a bit of insight more than anything, considering everything I've said, do you think there's a problem with my console? Or do you think it's the games?

    Hey jarrodkerwin,,

I understand how you feel. I occasionally run into games crashing, but that usually depends on the game. No game is perfect, in that we have seen almost every game have a variety of issues that often get fixed in content updates to the game as the game evolves through its lifecycle. At times, it's more obvious when a bad apple gets through the manufacturing and quality assurance processes.

We are constantly refining the operating system and Xbox experiences on the console to fix issues identified both internally and by our community of Xbox Insiders.

I invite you to download the Xbox report a problem app on your console to report an issue or unexpected behavior in a game or app, which helps Team Xbox investigate and fix problems on the Xbox console. This improves the gaming experience for you and everyone else in the community. Press the Xbox button to open the guide, and then select Store. Then search for “xbox report a problem” and download the Xbox Report a Problem app. You don't have to be an insider to download or use it.

If you experience a game crash, I suggest reporting the problem immediately. Here is more information on reporting a problem: Provide feedback to Team Xbox | Xbox Support

    Hope that helps,

    Hayabusa
