  1. Xbox Series X Glitch With Recognizing External Hard Drives

    Hi all,

My Series X is having issues recognizing my external 4 TB green Seagate Xbox HDD. It looks like the Series X is having some external HDD issues, but I am not sure if this is a problem with my specific console, or the Series X OS generally right now. I have
used this 4 TB drive for the past few years with my One X with no issue. I also have a 2 TB Seagate Xbox HDD that I am using on the Series X with no problem, that I also used on the One X, which make the 4 TB's behavior more puzzling.

The issue is this: after powering up the Series X from shut down, no matter what power mode it is in, the console will not let me access and search the 4TB drive individually, and it does not calculate it as part of the "available storage space" that is
shown on the bottom left corner of the screen in the games app. It does, however, recognize the HDD to some extent, because it lets me search and play all of my games saved universally through the "All Storage " function, including those saved on the 4 TB,
and it shows the 4 TB when I search storage options in Settings. But when I try to access the contents of the 4 TB through the storage options, it again brings up all games saved across all storage, rather than just those on the 4 TB itself.

The 4 TB is obviously formatted for Xbox and is recognized in some capacity, but I should be able to search through the games on the drive individually, rather than having to go through my laundry list of all storage. The bigger issue is I am trying to separate
whether this is the sign of a failing drive, or an issue with the console. I have tried the 4 TB again on my One X, and there still are none of the problems it has with the Series X.

The ONLY way I am able to have the 4 TB completely recognized, search through it individually, and have it shown as a "free space" option, is to completely shut down the Series X and unplug the console. Upon a completely cold reboot, only after unplugging
the console first, it works like it should. But I have no idea why it is behaving this way when my 2 TB external works as intended from any type of restart, or on any power mode, regardless of whether the console is unplugged first or not.

No matter which USB ports I plug the 4 TB into on the Series X, number of restarts to the console, or doing a "complete shutdown," this is the same problem I keep getting, again, unless I completely unplug the Series X after each shut down.

Has anyone else had this problem?

    :)

Can you transport Xbox 360 / One games on a Harddrive of some sort on a Series X?

If you have an Xbox One with an external USB 3.0 hard drive connected to it with games installed on it. Then just disconnect the drive from the Xbox One, and connect it to the Series X, the drive should be recognized, and you should be able to play the games without having to install them.

Xbox Series X eternal hard drive

    Hi,

If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.

    External hard drive not working

    Hi,

External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.
