    Xbox series X game update downloads.


    My Xbox series X is connected to the internet and runs a speed test and online gaming fine, but game updates or installs will not start. I somehow managed to get a fortnite update to download by uninstaalling and reinstalling, but another update and a download are stuck queing. I have tried, signing in and out, restarting, powering completely off and leaving for a few minutes before powering back up, power cycling modem/router, clearing mac address, nothing works. Have also previousluy had issues logging in to games, which only the complete power reboot fixes, but not always.

    Xbox Series X games / upgrades / updates has to be installed onto the Series X internal or expansion card SSD,

    You can have Xbox One games on your external hard drive that will get an Series X upgrade but the games will need to be transferred to the Series X and then the Series X upgrade will need to be downloaded onto the Series X SSD,

    As an example...

    I have Marvel Avengers on my external hard drive that will get the Series X upgrade and I will transfer the game over to the Series X SSD ready to download and update the game to the Series X version when available.

    Game can only be downloaded on a Series S and Series X, but not an Xbox One X. Xbox One X is not the same as a Series X.

    I have a mix of xbox ones, xbox one s, xbox one x, xbox series s and xbox series x. I have 18 xboxes trying to download a game update with that many xboxes becomes a huge hassle time sync.

    Hi,

    All of your Xbox One games will work on a Series X. Games that have been 'Optimised' for Series X/S, such as Gears 5 get a free update to download.

    Any digitally owned Xbox One games will also be available to download on the new console with no charge, you just need the same account you used for your Xbox One.

    This is an incorrect assumption. You can insert an xbox one disc and download updates that may improve visuals and frame rates on Xbox Series X/S but in order to play you still need the disc unless you own the digital version of it.

    Xbox Series X will utilize the Xbox One X version of enhancements while Xbox series S will use the Xbox One S enhancements.

    You will not get a free game by borrowing or renting a physical version of a game and installing it on Xbox Series X/S.
