Xbox Series X Fan Malfunction

I was playing rocket league on my Xbox Series X and it was fine. Then after a game ended I heard a loud kind of rattling noise coming from my Xbox. I went up to it and a ton of heat was coming out of it and it kind of smelled like something was burning. The fan looked like it was barely running. I held down the Xbox button on my controller and selected the restart option. When it turned backed on I tried to start another rocket league match but right before I found one my Xbox turned off. I waited maybe about 30 mins and turned it back on. It turned back on but the fan wasn't moving an inch and there was a very faint noise that I don't think that I've heard before. Also mine is one of the earlier models.

My suggestion is that you should initiate a repair order for the console as it appears to be a hardware issue, which you would need to do for the issue to be fixed. To initiate a repair order for your console using the instructions given in the link below.

I'm sorry to read that you're experiencing this issue with your Xbox Series X console!

If by "rebooting the system" you mean you reset the console to its factory settings and the problem still persists, then as a last resort, I recommend trying an offline system update for the console using the instructions from the following link:

When this type of problem isn't resolved by resetting the console, the only alternative is to perform an offline update. This should resolve the issue if it originates from the console's software and not its hardware.
