Xbox Series X / External Hard Drive problems

    (Hard Drive = HD)

I just downloaded Destiny 2 and all expansions and when I tried to play it it said "game is taking too long" I didn't think anything of it at the time but then none of my games that were downloaded to the HD were playable. Then as I tried power cycling
the console and unplugging the HD back in my controller would lose connection to the console. when the HD was connected it would not read or find the controller unless I removed the HD. Then after multiple restarts and trying to get the Xbox to read the HD,
the xbox would not connected to the wi-fi unless i removed the HD. At last I finally got it working and the xbox reads the HD but I can't play any games now and I can't even format it thru the console I get an error code saying it "took to long to open"...it's
a 4TB Seagate and I bought it a less than 3 months ago. I had 3 other Seagate HDs do this. If anyone can recommend what I can do now or help in any way, thank you!

    :)

Decided to reinstall CoD Black Ops 3 after a couple years and I’m stuck on version 100.0.0.12.0.0 Is there any way to fix it? I’m trying to play with my friends but can only do local games.

Hi, I had the exact same problem and it occurred on my xbox one and Xbox series x, it was in a external hard drive on my series x so I unistalled everything and reinstalled just the base game onto the internal hard drive then the zombies chronicles and it fixed the problem

Xbox Series X eternal hard drive

    Hi,

If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.

    External hard drive not working

    Hi,

External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.

Is it safe using an old Xbox one internal hard drive as an external storage for my new Xbox series x?

Hi and thanks for reaching out. I hope you’re doing well. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I'll be happy to help you.

It is safe to use a reformatted hard drive as an external storage option for your Xbox Series X. However, there are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. Make sure that the hard drive is compatible with your Xbox Series X. The hard drive should be USB 3.0 and have a capacity of at least 256GB.

    2. If the hard drive was previously used in another device (such as an Xbox One S), make sure that you have properly formatted it before using it as external storage for your Xbox Series X.

    3. As with any external storage device, there is always a risk of data loss or corruption if the hard drive is not used properly. To minimize this risk, make sure to handle the hard drive gently and keep it away from extreme temperatures, moisture, and physical damage.

Overall, as long as you follow these guidelines, you should be able to use your old hard drive as external storage for your Xbox Series X without any problems.
