Xbox series x download speeds slow, ISP or Microsoft/Xbox?

I have issues with downloading speeds on my Xbox series x. I’ve done power cycles on my Xbox and router, called my ISP, who currently looking into it as they made a change recently as well. I recently had a static ip address applied and enabled ipv6. Now I’ve turned off ipv6 as there have been problems with it, or so I’ve been told. All my other devices are reading a download speed matching my plan, even through doing a speed test on the Xbox shows something similar to it as well. However, my actual download speeds are around 1-15mbps and sometimes nothing for a while. I’ve checked my DNS settings, port selection are all correct, NAT is open, cleared my alternate MAC address and restarted. I’m using a wireless connection, as currently the only wired connection is an Ethernet over power, which drops the speeds I should be getting (around 80-100mbps) to about 25mbps. But even this, displays the same slow downloading g issues I’m having. Playing games is fine, no issues, just purely downloading updates or games.

I’m at a loss of exactly where this problem is.

    :)

Xbox series x download speeds slow, ISP or Microsoft/Xbox?

Hi there! This is Virginia O.

I understand that you are experiencing issues with your slow download speed.

I apologize for the inconvenienced this has caused you. I will do my best to help you.

Please close background apps. When downloading a game make sure that no games or apps are running in the background. Press the Xbox button on your controller, navigate to the Home screen, highlight any running apps, press the Menu button, and select Quit.

And then disable remote features. Kindly go to Settings > Devices & connections > Remote features and disable Enable remote features. Also, set Sleep mode to Energy saver.

Next is to change DNS Settings. Please go to settings> network> network settings> Advanced settings>DNS Settings> Manual.

    PRIMARY DNS: 8.8.8.8

    SECONDARY DNS: 8.8.4.4

If the issue persist after performing the steps, kindly connect a direct wired Ethernet connection instead of Ethernet over power or Wi-Fi. This can provide a more stable and faster connection.

I hope that this will help you improve your download speed.

    Thank you for your cooperation.

Slow Download speeds for Xbox Series S

I’m having the same problem with my Series X. I know at least 4+ people having the same problem with their Xboxes. I have done the troubleshooting and it’s not the connection, ISP, modem, cable, etc. I even doubled my bandwidth from 200megs to 400 and the speeds stay the same. Games play without any problems, Xbox Speedtest shows the speed correctly at 400, but the downloads from Gamepass, store, updates, etc, are slow. I noticed this behavior since I started using the series X on launch day. This is a real problem. Hope we can get it solved.

Two brand new Series X. One failing on hard wired connection.

    Hi Mark, I’m Ryan.

What OS version are both Series X consoles currently on? You can find this info in Settings > System > Console info.

What’s the specific model of your router and modem, and what ISP are you with?

    Slow download speeds

There could be numerous reasons why you are having slow download speeds.

    1. Microsoft might be slowing down downloads to help with the server load, as more users are using Xbox than normal due to the lockdowns that are in place all over the world.
    2. Your ISP could be having issues or have slowed down downloads again to help with their server load.
    3. Microsoft could just be having issues.
    4. Your ISP could also be having issues.

Take your pick from either one.

Download speeds not the same as what they appear to be

Ye it's hard to say but your isp and probably Microsoft are slowing down your download speeds. It's to help during the covid 19 lockdown.
