Xbox Series X Display Issue / HDMI Port

I turned on my Xbox Series X with my recently purchased Elite v2 controller when I got home from work but nothing appeared on the TV other than "No signal." I got behind my TV and checked the HDMI connections starting from the TV's HDMI port 1 to my Xbox Series X and the (original / OEM) HDMI cable was fully seated in each of the TV's and Xbox Series X HDMI ports. I thought this was pretty weird as I was playing Halo Infinite online the night before with my friends.

I then unplugged the power cable and let it sit for a minute with the power button fully depressed on my Xbox Series X. I plugged the power cable back in and turned it on again directly from the Xbox and my TV still reported "No signal." I unplugged the HDMI cable from the TV and Xbox Series X and re-inserted them and it still didn't work (no signal on TV).

I decided to test it with another HDMI cable and when I unplugged the origianl HDMI cable from the Xbox I noticed the HDMI port on my Series X had a frayed wire / pin inside on the top edge of the internal connector. My heart sunk.

I scheduled a phone call wih Xbox support and explained the issue as clearly as I could. I was informed that my warranty expired 5 months ago and that I should take it back to Walmart to have the hardware inspected and repaired... The Walmart where I purchsed my Series X does not do that... The Xbox support person then asked to put me on hold and came back to tell me to take it to Gamestop (20 miles away but it is on my way to work) to have their technician repair it. ?????????

I know that Gamestop doesn't repair Xbox Series X consoles at the store. I asked her if I could send it in to "Microsoft" to have it repaired and she said that was not an option due to it being out of warranty. I don't want to do anymore... I'm pretty depressed and stressed over this thing now. I guess I have a $500+ paper weight with a new Elite v2 to go along with it.

I've been a giant Xbox fan since the original Xbox was released and have purchased every Xbox console new for each generation (sometimes multiple consoles of the same era) but this feels like it will probably be my last one. The Xbox support call has left me bewildered and confused... I undrestand my warranty ran out 5 months ago but why can't I send it to Microsoft to be repaired? I don't even understand how the inside of the HDMI port broke in the first place.

Has anyone successfully sent their Xbox Series X to a 3rd party repair shop? The search results I found advertising this type of repair don't make me feel very confident about doing it. I still don't understand why I can't send this in to Microsft for service / repair. The support phone call I received was abysmal and has left a very bitter taste in my mouth. I'm sorry for the long post but I just don't know what to do now... I certainly can't afford to buy another Series X (if you can even find one).

    :)

    Variable Refresh Rate

No you can go on YouTube and see other people use hdmi to DisplayPort active adapters for their Xbox series X but it has to be a active adapter with a usb plug on it to power it you can’t just use a hdmi to display port cord you won’t get picture or audio. And you’re right it’s not bidirectional it has to be hdmi to display port active adapter not display port to hdmi active adapter. And the display port hooking up to the monitor also gives it a way cleaner and more colorful and crisp picture compared to just regular hdmi to hdmi

    1080p @ 120hz

The series X is HDMI 2.1 and my monitor is only HDMI 2.0, I was told the display port cable would transfer more data? My monitor is LC27G55TQWUXEN

Xbox Series X Compatibility with the Alienware 34” UltraWide Monitor

what i can gather is hdmi 1.4 supports 1080p at 120hz and 1440p at 75hz so it will run with series x but you will be stuck at 1440/60hz most likely.

now if the series x had display port that would solve the issue.

most games will be targeting 60fps on 1440 and 4k anyway on the series x with some varying degree.

My Xbox Series X is zoomed in on my tv . This is not using the magnifier. Whenever I power it on a surge noise happens from the power cord to the machine .

Hi and thanks for reaching out. I hope you’re doing well. I'm an Independent Advisor and a Microsoft user like you and I'll be happy to help you.

It sounds like you are experiencing some issues with your Xbox Series X. To troubleshoot the zoomed-in display on your TV, you can try the following steps:

    1. Check the display settings on your TV.

    - Some TVs have a "Zoom" or "Aspect Ratio" setting that can cause the display to appear zoomed in. Make sure this setting is set to the correct value for your TV.

    2. Check the display settings on your Xbox Series X.

    - You can access these settings by going to the "System" tab in the "Settings" menu, then selecting "Display & sound" and "Video output". From here, you can adjust the display resolution and other settings that may affect the display's appearance on your TV.

    3. Check the HDMI cable and port.

    - Ensure the HDMI cable is securely connected to the Xbox Series X and the TV, and that the port on both devices is free of any debris or damage.

    4. Try a different HDMI cable.

    - If you have another HDMI cable that you can use, try connecting your Xbox Series X to the TV using that cable to see if it resolves the issue.

If you continue to experience issues with the zoomed-in display on your TV after trying these steps, you may want to consider seeking assistance from Xbox support or a professional repair service.
