Xbox series X disk drive spins for 6 minutes and 14 seconds after startup

First 2 test are done on the Slim. Forza 4 and Gears 3. Thought I would work backwards in time since you asked about GoW3. Shockingly, they both spin down after 2 full minutes. I hear the head move for the first 6 to 7 seconds and then drive spins till
the 2 minute mark.

So while it does finally spin down. WHY did they extend a 15 second process to 120 seconds when the DVD head stops moving at around the 7 second mark? I say, bug.

Are you sure the disk is spinning all during the game? It's normal for it to spin up when you launch, it does a disk check to validate that the disk is in the drive. After that though, it shouldn't be spinning your disk.

Thats because Skyrim uses the new disc format.

The disc carries on spinning for a couple of minutes after starting the game. Probably something to do with copy protection. After a couple of minutes the disc will stop spinning.

This should happen with any game that uses the new disc format.

Do you have the disk in the drive? Even though a game is downloaded to the hard drive, you still have to have the disk in the drive in order to launch it. The system will spin the disk for a second to verify that it is there, and then everything afterwards
will run from the hard drive.

The disk will spin after a couple of minutes after install. This only happens to games with the extra 1GB on the disks to make sure they are real copies and not fake installs.
