    Xbox series x disconnects external storage, resulting in interrupted game play


    Xbox series x has been disconnecting my external storage, resulting in my game getting disconnected(only if the game is on my external storage) and my controller getting disconnected. I have searched for this problem and found that the common solution was to hard reset my xbox. Ive already tried that and the issue is still happening. I also checked if my storage drive was plugged in properly too and it was. I do see a lot of people having this issue too, especially among people who are using an xbox series x. Is there any solution to this or a workaround so my game play is not interupted?

    Xbox Series X eternal hard drive

    Hi,

    If your game is now a Series X optimised title, it can no longer be played off an external hard drive. It must be moved to either the internal storage or an optional expansion card.

    External USB hard drives are too slow to play Series X optimised games. None Series X games will still run from your external drive. The internal storage in the Series X is a fast NVME SSD. These drives are several times faster than mechanical hard drives.

    It depends on what you use as external storage. If you get a regular hard drive or SSD, then any Series S/X optimized games will still need to be moved to the internal storage to play them (Older games can be stored and played from the external drive). If you want to store and play Series S/X optimized games on external storage, you would need on of the expansion cards that were created for the console.

    If you are trying to play Xbox Series X|S games from the Game Drive, then that is not possible. The only way to play those games is from the internal storage or the official Xbox Series X|S external storage cards. The Game Drive can be used to play Xbox One, Xbox 360 & Xbox original games via backward compatibility.

    Hi,

    Yes you can use it. You can use any external storage that the Xbox One supported on the Series X and S. However, external storage can only be used to play Xbox One games and BC Xbox 360 and original Xbox games.

    Series X and S titles need to be run either from the internal SSD or the optional expansion card.

    Yes you can plug in the hard drive on the Xbox Series X, and the Xbox One, Xbox 360, & Xbox games will be able to be played straight away. If you have games on disc, just insert the disc, and the game should play as it does on the Xbox One.

    Just remember you cannot play Xbox Series X games from the external hard drive, only from the internal and external SSD storage devices that are available for the Series X.
