Xbox series x disc drive humming noise

Could you please describe the noise?

Is it a rattling noise like a worn out fan bearing?

Or is it a deep humming sound like a disc spinning in the drive "off center"?

Is it an electronic buzzing or humming?

Is it a "whining" sound like electrical coils chirping?

Depending on the noise it can be different things, and not all can be fixed by yourself.

Unless it's a disc rattling in the drive, there is nothing you can do to fix it yourself, and you need to sign up your console for a (warranty) repair at https://devicesupport.microsoft.com

There are two version of hard disc drive for xbox one the old version and the hybrid version. The hybrid version makes less noise and is faster maybe this is what causes your friends to think differently of the humming noise you hear.

Again in my opinion that noise is quite normal.

Yes it is normal for some games to make a "humming" noise. You can always Install the game to your hard drive, witch can make it spin less, resulting in it being quieter! It also reduces loading times! If you see any damage on your Disc, you could take it
back too. The humming is not a result of your xbox though. Good Luck!

Any sort of grinding noise is not a good sign. Arrange a repair or replacement.

I had to replace a Series X that had a grinding disc drive just 6 months after I purchased it.

It actually does. I got the Series X this holiday at $349, and the same disc is working perfectly. I have determined that the Xbox One X disc drive is trying to read Cross Gen discs differently than Xbox One discs. The disc drive on the Series X doesn’t have this issue. You might need a new disc or you might need to send your Series X for maintenance.
