Xbox Series X controller + CSR 4.0 bluetooth issue

I have bought a CSR 4.0 bluetooth adapter for my windows 10 PC to connect a series x wireless controller for as far as I know the controller uses bluetooth version 4.0.

-The bluetooth adapter can be operated using the "Generic Bluetooth Radio" driver which operates as normal bluetooth adapter but in that case it doesn't detect the controller when adding a new bluetooth device and pairing the controller.

-The adapter also comes with a CSR harmony wireless stack that installs an additional driver which operates in a closed environment through a tray application, in which case it can detect the controller and can pair (the light on the home button on the controller becomes solid stops flashing) but it doesn't recognize it as an Xbox wireless controller rather as an unknown device that appears as an HID device in device manager which can't be used.

Following the last method I have tried force updating the drivers for the recognized HID device to Xbox wireless controller but nothing changed.

I am using windows 10 Education edition 21H2 update.

thanks for your reply, I want to clarify that the controller works with other devices such as my laptop with built in Bluetooth as well as my smartphone.

It does work with a USB cable as you mentioned, I tried that even before the Bluetooth adapter.

I would like to know why is a Bluetooth adapter different from built in Bluetooth in said devices, and is there a driver update I can look forward to for this issue?

In short (and to the point): currently, there is no update planned that will make the Xbox controller compatible with third-party USB adapters. As for why it works with the built-in bluetooth on your other bluetooth-enabled Windows devices, this is in part because of how your device downloads drivers for the devices it recognizes. As your controller is connected directly via bluetooth to your laptop, it can identify it as a controller and request the correct driver for it. Something similar happens with smartphones. This is likely not possible when you use the third-party USB bluetooth adapter.

Hello there! To make sure I've understood correctly, you're attempting to use the Xbox Wireless controllers with a third-party Bluetooth adapter, correct?

Currently, the Xbox controllers are not cleared to work with third-party Bluetooth adapters. We recommend the Xbox Wireless Adapter, which should be compatible with your device (you mentioned that your PC is up-to-date). That it is an Education edition Windows 10 shouldn't impede your ability to use it. Otherwise, you can use a USB wire to plug the controller directly into the PC.

The Xbox controller uses the Bluetooth 4.0 specification as its standard. Many Bluetooth devices can be backward compatible when a slower transfer rate is still effective. However, the latency needed for a game controller likely can’t tolerate the slower 3 Mbps speeds of Bluetooth 2.0 when Bluetooth 4.0’s high speed spec offers up 25 Mbps. It’s unlikely the Xbox Series 2 controller would allow connection to a slower Bluetooth 2.0 adapter.

We are gonna proceed to uninstall the software and reinstall it to see if that fixes the issue because it seems to be an issue with the software instead of the controllers.

To answer your question about Bluetooth 5.0, the answer is Yes, because the controller's requirement is Bluetooth 4.0.
