    Xbox Series X black screen and 480p mode


    Looking for help on Xbox Series X, I have the LG G1 Evo TV (3.11.23 firmware) and Xbox is also updated. I have factory reset both and changed hdmi cables and input ports. Issue is that the TV and Xbox will have no issues playing at 4K, and then randomly I will start it up to play a game or watch a movie and it will start up in 480p mode. I will shut down console and turn TV off and try again. 50% of the time starting back up will be in 4K 50% it will be in 480p. The other issue is when I do roll the dice correctly and get it to start up in 4K I will try watching a 4K movie (I have tried a number of them) and it will start up and get to the menu but once I hit play it’s just a black screen. I will shut down and restart and with out a doubt it will start up in 480p...seriously have tried everything and every troubleshooting that’s on MS and reddit with no change in behavior it only delays or resets the problem but it ultimately returns to a failed state. Is this a hardware issue? A software issue? Is it my brand new TV (it displays 4K content from other sources just fine) Any help or advice would be great, especially from MS.

    Thank you Houmaidi O, appreciate your response! I will find someone with another 4K tv to try out on I have also purchased multiple 8k HDMI 2.1 cables to try out as well. Will continue from there.

    Hello @jpetersonrunner!

    Since you have already tried all troubleshooting possible but the issue persists, I would suggest trying connecting your console to another TV as well as trying different HDMI cables. If this does not fix the issue, it can be a hardware issue therefore your console needs to be serviced. You can request a repair order for your Xbox Series X console using the link below.

    In am using a HDMI cable for connecting my monitor to the Xbox and and yes the refresh rate is 60hz on my ASUS VG236H still when i change the resolution from my xbox display settings from 480p to 720p or 1080p the screen goes black for 15 seconds and returns
