Xbox Series-X and Xbox Series-S on same network unable to play co-op games

Hi

I purchased the two xboxes as presents for my son and myself 6 months ago to play games together on our network at home. We have two GamePass ultimate subscriptions (one for reach of us) and have been trying to play games together with mixed results. Sometimes we can play Forza Horizon 5 together, but we have NEVER been able to play Minecraft Dungeons together. His account is a family account and I have opened it up and allowed multiplayer options for these games.

Previously with an XBOX 360, I had no issues playing games with other xbox xconsoles on the local network so have to ask what the heck I am doing wrong (or why have we taken an evolutionary step backwards). I have seen this issue raised by a few others online over the last 18 months and longer. I know some of the game devs seems to have a real problem hosting servers despite insiting players connect with them to play the game, but surely that can't be the cause here?

I have gone through using diferent networks with different ISP's (mobile and fixed) have had the same results with both OPEN and Moderate NAT. What is going on here and what am I missing?

Hello Sena, you tried to manually modify the port that Xbox connects to Live servers, as you have two Xbox by default they are oriented to connect on port 3074.

Go to Settings'Network Settings'Advanced Settings'Aternative Port Selection»Manual

And then choose different port from the 3074.

An Xbox One S is not the same as a Series S. You would not be able to play Series S/X games on that console.

Hello there,

every Xbox 360 and or Xbox one game you can play via backwards compatibility on your series X/S share the same multiplayer network, so yes you can play those games with your friends across different generations of Xbox. However for future games releasing
on Xbox one and series X/S separately, I can't confirm that it will work a 100%.

It actually would. There's an Xbox One, One S, and One X that are all in the same family. Then there is the Series S and Series X that are in a completely different family of consoles.

An Xbox One X is not the same as a Series X. The game will not work on an One X.
