Xbox Series X and Call of Duty Cold War (also Apex Legends)

I was lucky enough to get a Series X back in November when they were released. Sadly I haven't played it much at all because it won't run the games I want to play. I purchased the cross gen bundle of Cold War so I could play it on my One X until I could get a Series X. Everything seemed to load fine but after trying to play multiplayer, the game would initially freeze and restart the console. After uninstalling and re-installing a few times, it stopped restarting the console, but would still freeze mid-game and kick me back to the Xbox menu. I then tried to reset back to factory settings and start fresh. Reloaded the game making sure I downloaded the correct version (X/S), and tried playing again. Same result.... freezing mid game, kicked back to menu.

So, running out of options, I returned the console to microsoft to see what might be causing the issue. Guess what they did? Reset to factory settings and returned it to me. I tried loading Cold War. Same results. Freezing mid-game and crashing back to menu. So I gave it to my son to try since he plays more games than i do. He returned it to me less than a day later telling me he couldn't play his favorite game, Apex Legends. Said it wouldn't even start the game before crashing back to menu. So I've had this $500 brick on my desk for months.

Question: What now? Microsoft says it's the game vendor's fault, not theirs. What do I do? Do I ask for reimbursement from Activision? I know people who have a Series X and play Cold War. Why can't I? Someone please help.

At this stage just call of duty black ops Cold War and apex legends I also play call of duty modern warfare and it works fine

With game issues like these, there could be many factors that could cause the issue so it's best to start with basic troubleshooting steps and work our way up trying different things to start ruling out some factors and narrow it down to the root cause.

Solution 1: Basic troubleshooting steps:

Step 1: Clear Mac address:

Settings > Network Settings > Advanced Settings > Alternate Mac Address > Clear it and the console should restart. It would definitely help if you could restart the internet router while the console is restarting.

Step 2: Close any running games:

To remove download constraints from games or apps being installed, you can either wait for the Xbox to suspend the running game, or you can force games to close by doing the following:

On the Home screen, navigate to your most recently run game.
With the game highlighted, press the Menu button and select Quit.

Step 3: Remove your account:

First, please select System > Settings > account > remove accounts and then select your account and select Remove to confirm then re-add your account.

Step 4: Reset your console:

If you are still encountering the same issue, please select System > Settings > System > Console info > Select Reset console > Choose Reset and keep my games and apps.

Note =>The "Reset and Keep my Games and Apps" option will not cause losing your games, but please be aware that you need to be completely aware of the email address as well as the password of your account before going for it because it will require you to sign in to the account.

Hi!

Maybe you have the Xbox One version of COD Cold War and you see that message because the Xbox One version cannot be upgraded to Xbox Series X. You can find more informations about COD Cold War editions here:

From what I can tell, to access the Series X version of the game, you need the Cross-Gen bundle...once you buy that, you should then be able to download and install the Series X version. Without the cross-gen bundle it will, presumably, just install the XB1 version

From the Store page:

"For digital owners of the Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War Standard Edition, this upgrade will unlock the Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War Cross-Gen Bundle, giving access to the Xbox Series X|S version of the game. After upgrade purchase, search in the Xbox store for the Call of Duty®: Black Ops Cold War - Cross-Gen Bundle to install the Xbox Series X|S version of the game."
