XBox Series X - Additional Storage

Understand the Seagate Expansion Drive is the official product for installation of games and saving game saves.

I also found that the XSX accepts external HDD/SSD that are NOT the Seagate Expansion Drive.

However, owners may not be able to install games on these external drives.

Is there a cheaper alternative to the Seagate Expansion Drive?

    It is way too overpriced.

Correct me if I am wrong.

I have always been a Playstation owner (1-5) and I am about to crossover to the XBox.

So would like to know more.

    :)

The only 2 options right now are the Seagate cards, which come in 512GB, 1TB or 2TB sizes, and the Western Digital WD_Black C50 cards, which come in 512GB or 1TB sizes.

When it comes to external HDDs and SSDs, you can store any game on one, but whether the game will run from one depends on if it's optimised for the Series X/S or not. If it is, it will only run from the internal SSD or one of the expansion cards. If it's not, it will run from the external drive. Obviously, pretty much all new games are gonna be optimised for the X/S consoles.

understand that. just that i find it way too overpriced.

    I got a M2 SSD (2TB) for the PS5 Expansion Slot about USD120.

    Thus looking at alternatives.

Modern games require high data transfer rates, which only fast SSDs can accomplish

These are more expensive than platter drives

Western digital now makes ones that are slightly cheaper. You can play Xbox One games from USB, but no Series games. They must be played from the internal storage or the external card.

This is the same requirement on all next gen devices as hdds and ssds are far too slow and are bottlenecked by usb running at 500mbps vs 4.8gbps on series x and 4.5gbps on ps 5 not to mention you skip going theu multiple buses wirh nvme

It isn't a design flag but and upgrade
