    Xbox Series S/X controller won’t connect to PC via USB-C


    I plug in my controller with different kinds of USB-C brand wires and the controller just keeps blinking. This happened out of no where and I tried everything to fix it. The controller won’t connect via usb-c wire. It just keeps blinking when you press the Xbox button. I updated the controller using my Xbox and it works with the USB-C wire just fine. But as soon as u plug it into a PC it doesn’t work. I tried with my laptop as well. Very frustrated.

    That's not quite right. Apologies for quoting you.

    The Xbox 360 controller uses a proprietary wireless technology, it's not Bluetooth and the old adaptors won't work with a modern controller like the Xbox One or Series X|S controllers.

    Unlike Xbox 360 wireless controllers, Xbox One and Series controllers can also be connected via USB cable. Old Xbox One controllers use Micro USB, Series Controllers are USB C.

    To use an Xbox One/ Series controller via wireless on a PC and get basic functionality, all you need to do is connect the controller via Bluetooth. If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth then you'll need to buy a Bluetooth USB dongle, they're very cheap, less than $10. I'm from the UK and I connect my Series X controller to my PC via BT dongle I purchased from Amazon for about £5.

    For extra wireless features you'll need the Xbox One Wireless Adaptor for Windows 10. Unfortunately, the official Microsoft branded adaptors are now quite rare.

    No, not necessarily. The Xbox One Wireless adapter has extra functionality, but for basic wireless use you can connect via Bluetooth. If your PC doesn't have Bluetooth a BT dongle can be purchased for less than $10/€7.

    Note that the Xbox One controllers can also be connected via USB cable. The Xbox One uses a Micro USB cable, Series X controllers are USB C.

    How many of these USB C cables do you have or have you tried? Frustratingly, not all USB type C cables are actually capable of sending and receiving data. These cables you've tried may only be charging cables.

    Hi,

    Almost any USB C to USB A cable (your standard USB Phone/tablet charge cable) will work fine for PC or console gaming with a Series X type controller. I use a 2M USB C cable to connect my Series X controller to my PC.

    I don't have any Bluetooth issues, but using a cable does avoid changing the batteries so much. 😁

    The 3.5mm headphone jack on Xbox One/Series X|S controllers (including Elite controllers) does not work when connected via Bluetooth. It will only work via USB or the official Xbox wireless adaptor.
