Xbox Series S not displaying 1440p at 120 Hz

    Hello,

I am not currently able to display my Xbox Series S in 1440p while at 120 Hz. I have done all the troubleshooting I can possibly find online and was wondering if anyone on here would be able to help.

I am currently on a Dell S2719DGF. Now, this monitor is capable of displaying 1440p at 144Hz through HDMI 2.0 and can overclock to 155Hz through DisplayPort (It is also worth noting that this monitor cannot display 4k or any HDR settings). I have confirmed
that the monitor is in fact capable of doing all this via a phone call with Dell, as well as every website online saying this monitor is capable. I have also asked on the phone if there are any settings I can manually change, but they said no because it is
only auto-detect and plug and play, so it completely depends on whatever is hooked up to it.

Now, for the Xbox settings. When I go into TV & Display options, I am only able to see the resolution dropdown which allows me to select up to 1440p, but no option for refresh rate, because it is currently defaulted to 60 Hz. I have done the override trick
where you turn off the auto-detect settings, select 1440p and then choose the refresh rate. I am now able to see the dropdown between 60 and 120 Hz, but when I choose 120 Hz, it then forces the resolution to scale back down to 1080p. When I choose 1440p again,
it then forces my refresh rate to scale down to 60 Hz. And the cycle continues...

I know this is a common issue as I have seen posts about it before, but have never seen an answer that works. I have been on a wild goose chase back and forth between Xbox support and Dell support with nearly 2 hours of phone calls, and they each blame it
on the other. Please someone help! This issue should not be happening with such a great console.

    :)

My screen turn on black when i try to run a game on 120 FPS

What resolution are you trying to run at

If 4k 120 Hz then no it won't run at thaf

The max for series s is 1440p at 120hz

It will play at 4k bur only some games and with issues

The series s is meant for 1080p 120 max

    With suggested 90hz

The xbox series x and ps5 and switch pro are the only 4k consoles

One x does 4k at 30hz and ps4 pro upscales

    144hz monitor doesn't work with 120hz

    Hey SFL!

The Xbox One X is capped at 120Hz at 1080p and 1440p resolutions, but can do 4k UHD at 60 Hz. Unfortunately the Xbox cannot go higher than 120 Hz at the moment.

By any chance does your monitor have a setting to dial it down to 120 Hz?

I would also look over this article for display settings explanations: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/console/adjust-display-settings.

Let us know if that helps.

Can my Xbox series s run a 1080p 165hz monitor?

Hello, David R. I'm Arturo, and I'll be glad to provide assistance with your inquiry today.

Xbox Series X and S consoles support a maximum frequency of 120 Hz. Therefore, you will not able to set or see 60 or 120 Hz.

Besides that, it is important to clarify that you need to check if the monitor you want to get supports 120 Hz via the HDMI port, most monitors support 120 Hz and above via Display Port only.

You can check if your monitor supports 120 Hz via HDMI, if the timing is exactly 120 Hz and not (for example) 119.99 Hz and more by checking the manual or contacting the manufacturer.

I hope you find this answer helpful to your inquiry.

    Kind regards,

    Arturo.
