Xbox Series S freezing. Is my Seagate hard drive the reason.

if you are not experiencing any issues when the external storage device is unplugged, then it is likely caused by the external storage device.

If you want to be sure, there are Seagate specific tools (on PC SeaTools) that help you determine if there are any issues on that external storage device.. Keep in mind that you may have to reformat the drive afterwards and download any game again that was on it.

Also be aware that some games will require the internal storage device or the special Series drive to be able to run or use specific features.

External hard drives are not fast enough for Xbox Series X|S titles. Unfortunately you can't play these games off slow USB external hard drives. They need either be installed internally or to an optional Xbox Series X|S Expansion card.

Xbox Series X|S games can not be run from USB storage devices. These drives are too slow for Series X|S games, regardless of them being on Game Pass or not.

Series X|S games can only be played on either the Internal SSD, a Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X|S or the WD_BLACK C50 Expansion Card for Xbox

Any games that are Series S/X optimized can only run on the internal hard drive or the Seagate Expansion card. The external hard drive you are using can only store them.

If the games are Series S/X optimized, they can only be run from the internal hard drive or the Seagate expansion card. No other external drive can run those.
