The Series S claims 1440p at 120hz. I’ve seen these posted “solutions” but it is only ever 1440p60 or 1080p120 and that’s it… Xbox needs to let series S owners utilize the full bandwidth of HDMI 2.0 using their HDMI 2.0 devices and stop artificially limiting the performance of the console. At the very least someone from Microsoft should respond to this and give me the hard truth.

    4k 120hz issue

    Hi,

Do you have the Xbox One, or the Xbox Series S? You'd be surprised how many people get the names confused.

If it's an Xbox One S, then that console doe not support 120Hz @ 4K. Also, the HDMI out on the Xbox One S is HDMI 2.0, not 2.1. Only the Xbox Series S and Series X support 4K @ 120Hz via the console settings. The One S is only 1080P.

Bear in mind also, that there are no games for the Xbox One S that do 120Hz (or 120 fps). The 120Hz option is only there to support VRR (variable refresh rate).

If you want to play 120Hz supported games, you will need a Series X. The Series S support of 120Hz games is a lot more limited.

Note that on the Qn95a, only HDMI 4 supports HDMI 2.1

Xbox Series S does not and will not support 2K at 120hz with HDMI 2.0

    HDMI 2.0 only supports 1440p60 or 1080p120.
If you want a higher resolution with 120fps, you'll need a HDMI 2.1 cable.

Your Series S also supports 4k with up to 120fps, just like the Series X.

You can find more info here Set up 4K gaming at 120 Hz on Xbox Series X | Xbox Support when you expand the "Enable 120 Hz without 4K" Tab.

A bit of a muddy water response, but I appreciate the reply nonetheless. These standards you are talking about, though great and all, do not explain to me in any way a reason for the limitation of the Series S on HDMI 2.0. If you have actual knowledge of these standards you have referred to please feel free to elaborate greatly.

An Xbox is not a PC, and VESA standard resolutions are the ones the system and games support. Developers tune their games to perform their best on the hardware.

Thank you for pointing out the reply was nonsense. All I want is for Xbox and their Series S to let it be set for both 1440p and 120hz while connected to HDMI 2.0 (perfectly possible) then if a game is able to run 1080 120 then make it so or if 1440 60 then make it so, or both then all the better! Let me set it and forget it so I can get the best of both worlds when I have them available to me. I don’t want to be forced to babysit my display settings. Does that make sense? This is my grievance.
