Xbox Series S controller not responding

So I’ve just come inside from a break to start playing Xbox again & my controller is completely non responsive. The Xbox button in the middle works fine but nothing else, I was playing it about 5 minutes ago with no issues. This is the first problem I’ve had with it, I’ve done the power cycle thing & reset my console but nothing os bring it back.

how do you expect me to update the controller when the buttons aren’t working ?

Controller is up to date as I always check this

Please try the steps one at a time to sort out the issue.

Solution 1: Update your controller

If your controller connects when using a USB cable but doesn't stay connected after removing the cable, reconnect the cable and see if there’s an update available for your controller:

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Under Profile & system, select Settings.

Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.

On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select “…” to check the firmware version for your controller.

If it says there’s no update available, your controller is current. If it says “Update,” follow the steps provided.

Once your controller is updated, disconnect the USB cable and try connecting wirelessly again.

Solution 2: Check your controller's button mapping settings.

If you’re seeing unexpected controller behavior across all game and apps, it could mean that your controller button configuration has been remapped. To check your current controller button settings:

Press the Xbox button  to open the guide.

Under Profile & system, select Settings.

Under Devices & connections, select Accessories.

On the Xbox Wireless Controller screen, select Configure.

Carefully review the current mapping for each of the buttons on your controller. You can also select Restore to default to set the controller back to its original button mapping.

I understand, I just needed to check first if the buttons are also not working if it's connected via a USB cable. Since it is really not responding, I would highly recommend to try requesting a replacement for it using this link, https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/hardware-ne...

I updated my xbox series S in anticipation of some driving over xmas, went to play today and the controller works on the xbox screens but as soon as I open a game (Project Cars 2, or even something non driving), the G920 stops responding and I get the "Controller disconnected screen", and from then on it only responds to the wireless hand controller. If I hit the Microsoft button on the wheel it takes me back and I can navigate around the xbox screens, but not in games.

The controller connects fine to the Xbox, I even used the Xbox button on the controller to turn on the Xbox itself. When everything is powered up It does not register any inputs. I can’t navigate the menu or select any options even though the controller is on and connected.

I updated the firmware on the controller and have done a power cycle multiple times and still it does not work.

Has anyone else encountered something like this? If so , what else can I do to solve this problem?

have you tried to hold the sync button down twice and factory reset the controller ???
