  1. Xbox Series S 2K at 120hz with HDMI 2.0

I'm confused.. Xbox Series S has an HDMI 2.1 port assuming it's for pushing the tech but technically HDMI 2.0 supports 2K (1440p) resolution at 120hz.

The targeted performance of the Xbox Series S is 2K at 120hz.

My question is will I be able to plug the high speed HDMI cable provided in the box in a 1440p 144hz monitor (preferred) / 4K TV at 120hz and run my games at 2K 120hz or will I be forced to use an HDMI 2.1 capable device to be able to achieve what an HDMI 2.0
    in theory already supports?

Confused because all the media are talking about needing a new TV / monitor to be able to achieve 4K at 120hz which is true for an Xbox Series X / PS5 but no one talks about the Xbox Series S.

    Thanks for the feedback!

    :)

    4k 120hz issue

    Hi,

Do you have the Xbox One, or the Xbox Series S? You'd be surprised how many people get the names confused.

If it's an Xbox One S, then that console doe not support 120Hz @ 4K. Also, the HDMI out on the Xbox One S is HDMI 2.0, not 2.1. Only the Xbox Series S and Series X support 4K @ 120Hz via the console settings. The One S is only 1080P.

Bear in mind also, that there are no games for the Xbox One S that do 120Hz (or 120 fps). The 120Hz option is only there to support VRR (variable refresh rate).

If you want to play 120Hz supported games, you will need a Series X. The Series S support of 120Hz games is a lot more limited.

Note that on the Qn95a, only HDMI 4 supports HDMI 2.1

It depends on what resolution your going to play at and the resolution of the tv,

if 4K, you need HDMI 2.1 to get 4K at 120hz refresh rate,

HDMI 2.0 will only allow 4K at 60hz.

if your at 1080p/1440p, HDMI 2.0 will be ok for 120hz refresh rate, however if it is 1080p/1440p i would recommend getting the Xbox Series S as that is aimed at 1080p/1440p.

Well that answers my question, I have a 27inch curved monitor that supports 1440p at 144hz over HDMI 2.0.

Thanks so much for your time!

most tv's dont support 1440 and 120, so a monitor is a good choice, the monitor needs to support 1440 res and will only do 120hz over hdmi.

hdmi 2.1 is backward compatable so you should be ok.

Many thanks for your response but I'm afraid you are mistaken. HDMI 2.0 has always supported 1440p at 120hz. Even the article you sent says this.

"The HDMI 2.0 connector was previously featured on Xbox One X and Xbox One S, with bandwidth limitations locking content to 4K resolution at 60Hz, or 1440p at 120Hz"

So my question remains How do I get 1440p at 120Hz on the xbox series X with the huawei mateview gt34 monitor that is capable of supporing this?
