xbox scratched a disk

Hi support team

my son bought disk with a game 'dragon age: inquisition' less than 2 weeks ago.

He started playing - game was pleasant to him.

but the xbox scratched a disk - I can't tell as he to do it. And now xbox can not read this disk. For the first time this happened.

What it is possible to make in such situation?

maybe it is possible to download the copy of game from xbox store instead of a disk?

please advise.

I always recommend installing to HD disk; XBox will then only spin up the disk to confirm that you own the disk. Not only do you lower the risk of scratched disks but you can continue to use scratched ones. For example, I have an old Mass Effect 1 & a Perfect
Dark Zero disk that were scratched; I borrowed a friend's copies to install but can still use my own to play the Hard Disk content.

In the worst case, borrow a friend's MW3 and install it on the HD or USB stick. Then you can give his copy back and still continue to use the scratched disk.

In the case of GTA V, you need to install the "Install" disk to the Hard Drive and they recommend not to install the "Play" disk to the same drive. However, you could install an unscratched "Play" disk to a USB drive instead. Hopefully, you can then continue
to play GTA V (with the scratched disk for license purposes)

 

What does the scratch look like? If it is a circle scratch around the center of the disk then that would have happened because the console was moved while the disk was in and the console was on.

If your son has the console standing on end I would recommend laying it flat to prevent scratching in the future.

It happens do that sometimes. You can't do anything about it. Install your games next time. Frankly, this is due to terrible drive design--there's no buffer keeping the discs down. You didn't have to necessarily move your console for it to happen. Installing
your games prevents this from happening.

 

The circle scratch only happens if the console is moved. Perhaps the console was accidentally bumped when this happened.

See if one of his friends has the game on disc and borrow it then install the game from that disc. You'll be able to use the scratched disc to play after the game is installed.

 

Unless there are ghosts and thousands of people are lying, no. There's no buffer in the DVD drive; that is poor design. A computer DVD drive has a buffer so the disc doesn't dance around. For some reason, Microsoft didn't want to put one in. It's rare, but
the disc can sometimes go places it shouldn't, especially when it spins at high speeds, or the console isn't on a perfectly level surface.

Install your game--borrow a disc. However, if the middle of the disc is scratched (where the barcode on the disc side is), then your disc is useless and won't boot.

Sorry to hear it. However, for future reference it would be better to create your own thread instead of bumping older ones.

If your drive is broken you'll need to either repair or replace your console.
