Thoughts, wants, rumors and predictions at E3?

I'd like the xbox scorpio to be slightly smaller and more sleeker than the original xbox 1 and for them to conirm a maximum price of US $599.

On youtube, sony fans are no longer talking about specs and resolution, only cause Microsofts scorpio specs will totally own ps4 pro specs. sony fans are now talking about games. imagine when ps5 comes out, theyll switch right back to specs and resolution.
while xbox fans will be able to shove specs at ps4 pro when it gets released. because sony fans have been on about console comparisons for years. theyll be getting karma when scorpio uploads...

 

NEWS: KODI coming back to Xbox

Theres an announcement on Thursday this week about the Scorpio, maybe they will also mention about Kodi at the same time.

Seems pretty impressive. Friend of mine thinks it will go for $499.00, while I'm going with $699.00. Any guesses on price from the 10 or so people left in these forums?

 

There is a 99.9999999% chance it will sell for MORE than US $499. Hardware and design of that magnitude is not as cheap as US $499! US $699 is more realistic!

 

I really have no idea what it will go for, however, no matter what it is I expect these forums to get bombarded with threads saying it's too high.

If there's one thing I've learned watching gamers these days it's the fact that most of them can't afford their hobby. They think games should be $5 and everything else should be free. lol

If I was forced to guess a price I'd say not less than $499.99. A sane person would expect it to be higher.

 

Just a little bit excited by the reveal.

But don't forget that a PC with those specs are something like $2000-$2500 or so.

On the other hand "win developers back" can tell MS want to regain volumes.

But again

But how much to please developers if they have to make games for X1 and struggle to make it run in an acceptable way, so Scorpio exclusive titles may be to be expected.

X1 titles will diminish rather quickly - since it's loosing out to PS4 every day - why keep feeding this looser creature.

So yes, feel back and forth - how to solve this equation - get enough volumes for Scorpio for publisher to be excited releasing titles - and not a black hole for MS to dump money.

So figure $800 might be something to expect - not to be disappointed in the end. And something exclusive to own.

But to seriously move sales to Xbox - $600 might be way to go.

Things that would matter to me is also user interface much more customizable the way you want it. X1 is really cripled and many strange choices MS did how to use that dashboard space.

Another two months till we know....

 

Price doesn't bother me at all. If, however, the new console only ships in a BASIC BLACK shell, there's *no* way I'm paying whatever they're gonna be asking - at least at launch. Until they bring out a limited edition or special edition to accompany a particular
game, I won't forego my beautiful White S...

BTW smileskybird, when we were speculating about the branding for Scorpio, you had a few suggestions, but since yesterday's reveal, I've heard comments from other forums regarding Microsoft's "family" structure and people have namedropped one of *your* choices
- XBOX ONE X. But of course, since you're on Microsoft's payroll, you already knew this didn't ya? Oopsie!

 

Impressive reveal by DF, but my rule of thumb is never to buy a console until after yr 2. That way any software/hardware bugs (red rings/black, blue screens of death etc) will have been pretty much worked out by then... Also it will give you a 2 yr budget
plan to upgrade your TV etc before purchasing yet another console.

 

More good news from Digital Foundry about the Scorpio.

Project Scorpio will support FreeSync and HDMI 2.1 variable refresh.

 

Hmm, good news... after a fashion. Very informative video, however at the end Richard pointed out that this 'FreeSync' technology is currently not available on any domestic 4K television! Which means, even if Scorpio early adopters were trading up their
A/V gear *this* year (looks tentatively in mirror), they would STILL be missing out on a vital feature. Translation: perhaps early adopters should wait until 2018 for home technology to catch up.

This doesn't mean early adopters can't buy into Scorpio this year - it just means they'd have to make do with a supremely polished 1080p or 2160p image on their current display panels.

 

It seems that info is being reserved until E3. Even the way it looks too. My biggest fear though is that MS go with White again as their main choice! White just doesn't fit into the scheme of most peoples homes and one reason I may not buy on day 1. I know
its a minor aspect overall but aesthetics in my living room are quite important. I would rather wait for the inevitable custom version than buy a White console!!

I could go for a 'blood red' laser etched, Gears 4 Xbox Scorpio too - love the design of my Gears 4 XB1s and Gears 4 Elite controller. I was going to stick with my original Xbox One until Scorpio came out until I saw that console - mainly because the Slim
was White...

As for pricing, I don't know. Considering the cost of the XB1s 1TB model, with a 4k Bluray player, same connectivity options, the PS4 Pro with GDDR5 albeit only 8GB so 50% more, both use Jaguar CPU's and the Scorpio only has 4 more CU's than the Pro - clocked
faster of course and a better cooling system, its not unreasonable to think that the price could be around the $500 - maybe less. Its not unreasonable to think the Pro will be cut in price by then too. Its also a year later and looking at the price of a GTX1070
- something that beat last years TitanX for less than half the money so what seemed the pinnacle and a price to match a year ago, can be equalled or bettered for a lot less money a year later. Its not unreasonable to think that the cost of parts, like a 4k
Bluray player, have dropped in that year - I believe its the same model in the Scorpio. Of course that doesn't factor in how much MS want in profit margins and I know things like R&D costs, producing Dev Kits, promotion etc all factor in to the cost so its
not just the cost of the parts, the labour to build and distribution costs that go into the cost of buying. Parts may drop in cost which accounts for some of the price cuts we see but often its the fact that the R&D costs are met, the Dev kits are paid for
etc that also helps costs drop over time. MS will no-doubt price this as a premium product, which in fairness it is, but they also want to sell it. If the Pro is down to $300, Pricing this at $600 is going to be a hard sell - even if it is the most powerful
console on the market. Is it double the price better? MS could opt to go for the jugular and price lower than we expect. Imagine if Phil Spencer at E3 said $399.99, Sony would have a big problem trying to beat that announcement - Especially if its backed up
by a good rosta of games inc 3rd Party deals/exclusives too...
