Xbox says its overheating but its a little warm

I have had my xbox 360 slim for less than a year and about a month ago when I turn it on after 5 min it says its overheating and when I check the xbox is just a bit warm and after the fan will turn on really loud and the middle red light will turn on and
it will say "xbox is turning off to protect from overheating and after 10 seconds it will turn off. after that I turn it on and I can play straight up for 6 hours and it will not overheat.

I can live with this problem but its really annoying.... PLEASE HELP!!!

Do these next gen systems run hot at all?

My XB1 barely gets luke warm.

I've noticed the PS4 feels a little warmer but never had no problem with either overheating.

It does feel like its getting warm straight away but its only to months old so shouldn't be overheating :S ill try plugging straight into the wall see how that goes.

I used to have the overheating issue but it was more common and I couldn't use the 360 anymore.

I would suggest leaving it for an extended period of time, 1 - 2 days. That way the console can settle, I'm going to assume you use the console everyday?

If that doesn't work, I suggest contacting Xbox for a repair/replacement.

 

Make sure you have proper ventilation around the console, especially at the top where the exhaust vents are. When I first got my Gears of War console, I had it sitting upright next to a PS3, PS2 and Gamecube and got this error. It freaked me out as I only
had the console for a couple of days. But once I changed the angle it was sitting at (so there was nothing deflecting the exhaust fans), I never had the issue again.

 

I agree with the keeping it properly ventilated. I would also suggest keeping it dust free. Dust can get inside and cause issues as well. A can of duster could help, I make sure dust doesn't build up on top of it. Hope this helped.
