Xbox S Getting Poor Network Performance With Instant On Mode

I bought the Xbox One S yesterday, and as I played the NHL 17 Beta, I noticed I was getting really horrible lag spikes. Way worse than usual. I have a solid connection, my NAT is open and all that good stuff, but the lag I was getting yesterday was unusual.
So I tried out Rainbow 6 and yet again, horrible lag.

Well my buddy also bought his Xbox S yesterday as well, he had his on instant on mode, and was complaining about lag as well. So he took his off instant on and put it in energy saver mode, reset his router, and he said he wasn't getting any lag anymore.
I came here on the forums and saw a guy complaining abut network performance on instant on mode as well.

So today I put mine on energy saver, reset my router, and now I'm not getting the lag I was getting at first. Which is good, but I prefer my console to be in instant on mode, and right now, i get lag if its on that. Are any of you guys who have the new S
having experiences like this? Please leave some feedback here. Devs even. Please address this ASAP. I'm loving the new console! It's fresh! But this is an issue.

If you have your Xbox One on instant on mode turn it to energy saving mode instead. Instant on causes alot of problems with networks.

I have seen issues with the consoles here when set to instant on. One of my sons reset the router on their connection and stuff like that and was complaining about lag. I told him I did not really know what to tell him because I told them not to use instant
on a long time ago. He had to unplug his console and when he hooked it back up later it worked fine. That was when I asked about instant-on again. Sure enough he was using it. My oldest son said "Well, maybe that is why I am having issues." He changed
his to energy saving mode and then powered it down and when he started again all his problems where gone. We have 4 Xbox One consoles (different internet connections between mine and the ones they play) and they all have some issues over time when in instant
on.

 

I have been in instant on since Nov 13 with zero lag issues or any other issues, but I don't really use apps, just game and Netflix, Amazon, and Now TV. Just saying,

As Guerrero pointed out... it seems like the issue happens "over time" when using instant on. But it doesn't happen for everyone, apparently and it doesn't happen in the same time period for everyone it does happen to.

The thing is, leaving any networked device turned on can eventually cause problems with the connection. Despite the number of people (even some service techs) saying that it doesn't hurt anything to leave it turned on, it can over time. It's just the nature
of the beast in many cases. Some devices need to refresh their settings at least on a semi-regular basis... hence why rebooting works, since it forces the device(s) to terminate the connection upon shutdown and refresh it when powering back up.

That being said, I wouldn't give up on using instant on if you really want to. But you may need to settle with the fact that you'll need to either restart your Xbox and/or your modem/router on a regular basis... or be prepared to start doing... a lot...
of playing around with network settings, phone calls to your ISP support, etc. to track down what's happening and even then it might be with limited success.

Personally, I found instant on to be more trouble than it's worth. Not because of network issues, just other things about it I didn't like. I don't use it. I also rarely to never have connection issues, slow or laggy UI problems, or a host of other buggy
or glitchy type things that some people have mentioned.

 

I noticed when I had my OG Xbox the other day with Instant On, my dashboard would take forever to boot up. Now that I'm on the S, it doesn't. But that could also be because I have it on energy saver now. Idk
