Xbox restarts continuously when external hard drive is connected

I was also asked by Xbox support to be added to the preview members who can access the Private forum?

About a year ago I experienced the same thing. I'm assuming it occurred due to a power outage that occurred while I was in mid-download. I had to plug it into my Wii u, which wiped the hard drive clear when it was reformatted. Once it was cleared I plugged
it back into my Xbox. It stopped shutting down. I had to reformat it and redownload all my stuff but at least I saved my hard drive.

Please go to the guide menu highlight setting and use the option to restart the console. If you do this without the external hard drive connected after the console restarts hopefully when you next connect the external drive it should work.

Try to do a hard restart of the console and see if it helps. There may be something wrong with your hard drive so try to connect an external drive and see if the issue persists.
