XBox purchase issue

Hello,

This has been asked before, but that thread was closed without a solution.

I added credit to my child's Microsoft account balance to cover the cost of the game he wants to buy.

My child attempts to purchase, but is told I need to approve it.

I sign-in to MS Family and it shows a pending request for the game with options to approve or reject. I approve the purchase.

It then prompts me to select a payment method to purchase the game. These are MY payment methods - it does not allow me to select the child's MS account balance.

This is ridiculous!! My child has the money to buy the game, but because I need to approve it - Microsoft then want to charge ME for the purchase!! This is totally wrong. It should use the child's MS account balance, then ask me to pay any remainder.

Please resolve this since I have already added to my child's balance enough money for the game, but MS want to charge me again!

just to be sure, is this a Xbox 360 game or an Xbox One game?

Knowing what type of game it is, may be useful to try and determine any next steps.

You can use your account balance to purchase games on the store, but, you also need to have a registered payment method, in case the balance is not enough to cover the price of the game you are purchasing.

On your console, please follow these steps to add a payment method:

Press the Xbox button to open the guide.

Select Profile & system > Settings > Account > Payment & billing.

Select Payment options.

Select Add a new payment method.

Choose a payment option, and then follow the instructions to add or update your payment option.

The game is £16, and my child's account has ~£40 to spend, so that is not the issue.

Is it possible that the amount of money you added to your child's account isn't enough for the game PLUS TAXES?

If you're from the US, the prices shown for games are without sales tax. And if the game plus tax is higher than the amount your child has on their account, it might ask you to pay for the game.
