Xbox Project Scorpio and 21:9 Ultrawide Support

This is what I want, not 4K. Not every game supports 21:9 and I'm concerned that with the 4K push, the format will be left behind.

Xbox One X ultrawide monitor support?

I want to know if there is any existing ultrawide (21:9) monitor support currently on or planned for the One X in any resolution; 1080p, 1440p 2160p, etc. I haven't been able to find anything yet, so please feel free to respond at a later time. For anyone
already using an ultrawide display with their Xbox One X how is it? How does it compare to a standard display?

 

Changing Aspect Ratio and/or Resolution

I have an LG 34UM68-P 34-Inch 21:9 UltraWide Monitor and the aspect ratio of the monitor is 21:9 and the resolution is 2560x1080 and when I use my xbox one it seems stretch out. Is there any way to
fix this? I tried the option “Calibrate HDTV” in the video settings and that doesn’t seem to work.

 

No game supports 21:9. That is a movie aspect ratio.

The Scorpio is a game console and will support 4K gaming as advertised.

 

I guess you've never played Overwatch in 21:9 (or any other game). 21:9 is the best aspect ratio for games... I can't wait for the rest of the world to catch up.

 

Here is a Steam Curator list of games that support 21:9, as you can see it is quite sizable and includes many multiplatform titles that are also on the Xbox One. So there is really no reason why it could not be supported, especially on the Scorpio.

As to the resolution itself, I can't say I'm a fan. It does indeed give you far greater peripheral vision but, and Overwatch is perhaps the best example of this, games quite often sacrifice vertical vision in order to do it.

 

Where is a Steam Curator list of games that support 21:9? I CANNOT SEE IT.

At any rate, that perspective only seems to be a thing for PC players (specifically their monitors), and despite never owning nor wanting to own a PC, I do nevertheless read multiformat articles to keep up with "trends". Can't say that I've ever seen 21:9
trending (or maybe it's just a PC thing - in which case they are welcome to it).

I know that most console gamers aren't going to be playing on monitors but there still seems no reason for the resolution not to be supported in games where it already exists.

 

Seeing games in 21:9 is a million times better than 16:9.

 

i play my xbox one on my lg 29um68 at 16:9 with black bars. I really think they should make the scorpio 21:9 compatible, it wouldn't be that hard. they can keep the menu 16:9 for all i care

I'll tell you why this will probably never happen. The majority of TV's on the market place are 16:9 ratio, and those that are 21:9 are really expensive.

I'm sure that at some point 21:9 ratio will become the norm, and when that happens both Microsoft and Sony will either patch their console, but until that happens your going to have to either play PC games or live with it as it is.

 

21:9 isn't happening according to the Xbox Scorpio reveal last week. 4K all the way.

This is what I want also! I'm playing games on PC now solely due to the lack of 21:9 support on consoles! There are more of us out there than you think.

 

It really confuses me as to why they can't offer support for 21:9 monitors.

my resolution is 3440x1440, a mates is 2560x1080... last time I checked 4K resolution was 3840x2160

The way I see it is that if it has the power to run at 4K native then there's no reason to deny ultrawide resolution that has a SMALLER pixel ratio then 4K

Never had this happen in any of the countless games I've played. Hell, even games that are over 10yrs old scale perfectly fine on my monitor. Every game maintains the same vertical vision while my horizontal vision gets wider, including on Overwatch. No
idea who you saw it happen to to come to this conclusion that you lose vertical vision on an ultrawide display

 

But there are far more people without 21:9 monitors/TV's so who do you think Microsoft should cater for, the minority or the majority?
