    I'm trying to change my Xbox profile name from the name that was auto-generated when setting up the account but it's telling me I need to pay $9.99. I thought the first change was free, especially as it is not a name that I chose. Can anyone offer assistance?

    When u create the account it give u a name if u change that name so that mean that u use the free one maybe is that why is aking you to pay $9.99

    Hi there,

    The auto generated names have following pattern- [Adjective][noun][numbers].

    Before that, 5+years ago, they were [Adjective][noun]. When they were that way, users had 30 days to decide if they wanted change it to something of their choosing or keep the name. After the 30 days the users would need to pay for the name change.

    When you created your account, did you type in anything for a name suggestion or take the name as it was assigned to you?

    If you typed anything in, that would be your free name choice.

    It's possible. Go through the contact page, (https://support.xbox.com/contact-us) and you can see if the virtual advisor can answer it, but it may be better to get a call back so an agent can look into what is going on. (Sorry not sure if my clickable
