Xbox Privacy/Family Settings

Looks like it is just a matter of privacy settings.

To change your Xbox account privacy settings, sign in to the privacy & online safety page:

Set all the settings to "Allow" or "Everyone" on the three tabs:

Privacy;

Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One & Windows 10 Online Security;

Xbox 360 Online Security;

Note: If you’re on a child account, you’ll need an adult in your family to sign in to their Microsoft account to change your privacy settings. This is done through the Family settings.

If you have already changed the privacy settings, please log out the Xbox app and then reset the Xbox app and the game

Step 1: Open the Settings app. This can be done by clicking its icon in the Start menu or simultaneously pressing Windows logo + I.

Step 2: Click the Apps category icon and then click Apps & features to see all installed apps as well as classic desktop programs.

Step 3: Click on the app that you want to reset to see the Advanced options link. Click on the same (advanced options link).

Step 4: Finally, click the small Reset button. When you click the Reset button, you will find a small dialog box with “This will permanently delete the app’s data on this device, including your preferences and sign-in details.” Click the Reset button in the opened dialog box to reset the app.

Step 5: Once the Reset is done, you will see a check sign next to the Reset button. And restart the Pc

Unfortunately you can't prevent people from following your son's account, but you can do the next best thing and block them when they do so that they can't interact or follow back anymore.

Unfortunately anyone can follow any user. The way the system is set up, the two accounts won't be friends until there is a follow back.

You can limit the information their profile shares to the public through the privacy settings. I believe there is an option on child accounts to either be able to allow or deny friends (sorry, it's been a little while so I'm not sure what it says for that
setting exactly).
