Xbox Play Anywhere May Help Me Skip The 9th Generation Console! (Scorpio)

Sexy Vampirella, Xbox Play Anywhere program is doing exactly what it is designed to be doing by having a person question "why a console?".

Those that are on the fence between "Console vs PC", MS wants to encourage them to move to PC and grow the Xbox Platform on PC. Someone who is a Console Gamer will not see any point in the PC side of the program and will still continue to purchase Consoles
on the Xbox Platform.

I do have a question though, PC Gamers love to have their cake and eat it too.

PC Gamers and many Console Gamers claim the Mouse is superior for a FPS, lets take this for granted for now. So my question is. How does one play comfortably from a couch like they would on a Console with Controller but using a Mouse/ Ketboard and PC? I'm just
not seeing it. Big 55" plus 4K TV (note- not Monitor) and someone using a Mouse from the couch as their PC hides inside a cabinet. Am I creating a straw-man with this or is this what people are really trying to say what PC Gaming looks like?

I am so glad I am not the only person who sees this. The Xbox "One" Scorpio is definitely a 9th Generation of Video Game Consoles.

MS can play word salad all they want but the truth is simply, the Scorpio is the beginning of the 9th Generation of Video Game Consoles and is simply Backward Compatible by default with the current Generation (8th) and the current Generation of Xbox One will
have Forward Compatible Ports via Software with the Scorpio.

It will be only a matter of time before MS drops Support for the Xbox One all together (8th) and only provides new Software for the Scorpio (9th).

@ smilesky the hardware is outdated now, an r390 is a mid range card I run a pair of r390x @ about 5.8 tflops each, and with amds rx480 supposedly out performing a r390x at a price of £160/$200 even the most budget builds are going to be on par with Scorpio
by the end of this year, by the end of next year the goalposts will have moved entirely.

If your sticking with console fair enough but look at it from ms point of view, exclusives just don't sell that well on the x1 and with the the difference in console sales between than and Sony its not as easy or cheap to secure them in the first place,
doing this helps even the odds, its a good thing.

 

As a console gamer (at least for now), I really hate to say this but are console gamers really this idiotic on this subject? (I tried to put that nicely)

I mean seriously... do they really think if someone plays games on a PC that they are just gonna be slumped over a PC at a desk? Maybe the older gamers here are still having visions of the 80's? Clearly they're not reading
what the PC gamers in this thread are posting.

I'm just not seeing any reasons so far in this thread to convince me that buying new consoles make any sense.

I get it. Some gamers just don't like gaming on a PC, but from what I'm reading it's obvious they have no clue what PC gaming is. lol

Some will say consoles are cheaper. That's debatable. There are console gamers who spend outragious amounts just because they need some headphones and audio systems and... well you get the idea. I also have money so it's
not really an issue to me.

I imagine some gamers are all excited over how powerful the Scorpio is suppose to be. I'll be the first to admit I don't understand everything about specs... blah, blah, blah, blah, but I'm pretty sure that by the time
the Scorpio comes out (a year and a half from now) that it will be far less powerful than anything I can do on a PC.


Sure, there will be those that say I'm kwazy. I may be, but while console gamers are waiting for their dream console to arrive, I shall be playing their games on a PC that probably will be more powerful... now.


As for the whole keyboard / mouse thing. I plan to use a Xbox controller as I (wait for it)... sit on my couch and play games.

That makes sense....But don't see why you ask yourself questions when you already got the answers.

(You might just need to buy consoles,if you want to play Nintendo or Playstation games,that's all)

 

@ elohmn screen size is irrelevant it makes no difference, if you want to use kb/m on the couch buy something like razers lapboard.

 

Without me changing anything about my gaming setup how am I supposed to use a keyboard and mouse sitting back in my recliner? What, put the keyboard on my lap? Put the mouse up on my arm rest? Regardless of that I like using a controller. Like I said I pretty
much only play multiplayer first person shooters. I am not about to get a PC and use a controller against KB/Mouse users. If you play single player which doesn't require quick reflexes than you can get away with a controller or even a keyboard and mouse that
is not seated in the best ergonomic fashion.

 

Well, if you're sticking to the games you'd play on a console there's zero need for a K&M during gaming. K&M games are the games you wouldn't be playing if you didn't have a PC in the first place. Games such as Civ etc are better with a K&M, but almost
every single game that is on both platforms is playable via a game pad. That's how you get around the K&M requirement. Again, things have moved on since the 90's. PC towers are no longer grey boxes, K&M aren't required if you don't want to use them during
gaming and you don't need to sit hunched over a desk.

I'm sure some people are now taking the *** with their naivety. Surely if you claim to dislike something you know why you dislike it? You don't base that dislike on 2nd hand assumptions, huh?

I do. I have a huge library of games. Games like:

the Division

the Assassin's Creed games

Mass Effect games

Civ games

Xcom Games

Tom Raider games

original Gears release

Fallout Games

And many more games. The thing that keeps me on Xbox is that most Gears, Halo, Crackdown, and a few others are not on PC. I will still buy Gears 4, Horizon 3, and ReCore this year. And the others that will come next year. But I am mostly moving my purchasing
to PC. Why? Well, I will be playing Gears 4, Horizon 3, and ReCore on PC anyway. Thing with that is, MS will not see any $$ from those as those will come from other places. I am sure they get something from game sales on Xbox consoles. You could also
argue I was already on PC but I did buy console games sometimes because I had the console already. Now, I am going to sell my One when Gears and stuff hits and stick to PC. And this is not a knock on MS. I am so glad they did this.

Will I still console game? Yes. But I can console game on NX and PS4 for those exclusives.

Yes. But how many people are going to get Windows 10 because of this. I wonder if those people already had Windows 10. And if they buy the games through Steam or some other online store MS does not see any money. See myself. I was going to buy the Xbox
games anyway. And might have picked up a few others on Xbox. But, now I am positive those games will be on PC. And unless MS gets these games on Xbox they will be from other storefronts. So MS needs to push this. I really hope they do though as I love
Live and the ecosystem and will stay in it. So they are still getting my Live money (I know it is free on PC but it takes money to keep the system great) and $40 is nothing.

MonsterGuy2014 is a prime example of a large portion of gamers. They just do not want to mess with PC. I will say PC is not tough, a challenge, or any of the garbage that many put out there now. And controller support it can very easily be similar to
consoles with the way the Xbox app works. But it is not a direct replacement. And these people will have their console and enjoy it. But by expanding, IF MS can quickly get 3rd parties on board, they have a stronger player base on Live which is very good
for everyone.

I will give a huge example just from myself of how I see it. I would love to play BF1 on Live on PC. I would be fine if the game was cross buy and cross play. I am fine if they want to limit the cross play to controller only. I would buy it through
the Xbox system that way. Fallout 4, I use PC for the full modding. If they could get games like that on Xbox cross buy that would be great as well. That benefits the Xbox gamers because it expands the player base.

I am in no way attacking MS. No different them launching a system for VR and 4k than Sony or others doing it. And they are keeping it compatible. Combined with the Xbox store on Windows and cross buy and cross play the Xbox brand could really expand.
It is a good system.

 

One big plus for a console and the reason I would probably buy a Scorpio is movability. I could take it with me very easily (I am assuming it will not be gigantic) or move rooms with it. Who am I kidding. I know I will buy one. Even getting an S model
just for 4k blu ray for the wife.

 

If MS is trying to force people to buy PC games instead of XBOX games then they are going to *** off more people than they already have who have no interest in buying a PC for their gaming. That's O.K. there are other companies that are focusing on their
console instead of trying to put too many eggs in one basket.

MS is not forcing people to buy PC games. When you buy a Play Anywhere title, you get the PC version and the Xbox version. What's not to like?? We don't lose out at all. It's win win for me!

 

I have to say that I am shocked by the number of people I know that mostly console game (especially xbox only) that have asked me if I thought a PC would be viable in the living room. Makes sense though I guess. They can use a wireless controller for it.
They can have all their streaming stuff. Ease of use is there as Windows 10 is very easy to use. And they will have access to the newest Xbox games. Still shocking to already have so many people asking about this. Some even pointed out that if they did
do the PC route they could get that 4k content. Did not realize how many where interested in that as they never really mentioned it.
