Xbox Play Anywhere games - Different account for XBL than PC

How do I get Xbox Play Anywhere work for those of us with two accounts?

I have a modern Microsoft account that I use for my Win 10 PC, Skype, Office, etc. But from back in the pre-MS account days, my XBL account was kept separate from anything I might do real work on (e.g. office, email, ...). So I have a different account that
I use ONLY for Xbox Live.

Once I buy a Play Anywhere game on my Xbox, how do I install it on my PC? Because it's a separate account, the Win10 store obviously believes I don't own the title. I can't find any way to sign in with an additional account on the Windows 10 store, nor can
I find a way to install the game from the Xbox app on my PC. Note that the Xbox app itself does allow me to be signed in as my gamertag's separate account.

How do I install the freaking game?

Hi there:

I think the Play Anywhere feature has a lot of promise and means I might be getting some more games digitally. My question is this: The email account tied to my XBL gamertag is different from the account tied to my PC. Will this cause a problem for Play
Anywhere? What will I need to do to make a smooth experience?

Anyone know?

So I'm assuming this is a play anywhere game.

You can not play a play anywhere game on both PC and Xbox at the same time, on the same account.

What you need to do is set the Xbox One console you want to be able to play the game as the account's (that owns the game, unless you have a disc copy) home Xbox, then sign into the game on the Xbox with a different account, then you can sign in on PC with
the account that has the digital rights to the game and then you will be able to play on PC and Xbox One simultaneously.

No i dont think so. I bought Forza horizon 3 with xbox play anywhere and as long as you have the game downloaded, you can play with another microsoft account, as long as you use the same one across platforms your saves will carry over. If you use your work
account on your pc and a different one on your xbox, there will be two save files and data will not carry over

 

Xbox Live has been around much longer than Windows 10 and I personally didn't stop to think about using my Xbox Live account which is attached to a gmail because I wanted to have a live.com E-Mail attached to my Windows 10 PC. I've tried to add my live.com
E-Mail to my Xbox Live account and it says it's a reserved domain. I've been trying to find a way to merge the two accounts but it doesn't seem like Microsoft has bothered to make one. As of right now if I buy State of Decay 2 on the Microsoft Store I will
not be able to play it on my Xbox One. I would have to buy it on my Xbox One, create a second user account on my computer for one single game, and then login to it once to install it and then never use it again but also never be able to delete it. That's not
a solution, that's a workaround.

So when can we expect Microsoft to give us the account merging option? Play Anywhere has been around long enough that I'm baffled as to why it's not already possible.
