    Xbox payment options

I am trying to get my head around the Microsoft permissions on Xbox regarding payment options. My son set up an account as an adult and my bank account was added before I understood the system. I have sorted this out now and made him a child with my profile
added as adult. The guidance recommends that bank accounts are not added to child accounts but if I try and remove the bank account details I am told that my son's subscriptions will lapse. (I am not sure how a subscription can lapse if it has already been
paid for covering a whole year or why Microsoft require a constantly registered payment option but that is another matter.) Is there a way of transferring the bank account details to my account maintaining the subscriptions or does it have to stay in my son's
account ? I believe I have now set up restrictions preventing him buying things without my permission but would still like to move the account from him particularly as Microsoft recommend this and money can be transferred to him when needed.

    :)

How to Manage your Xbox LIVE payment options

    Overview

You can choose to use more than one payment method for your Xbox LIVE account. The payment options include credit cards and PayPal accounts. You can use these payment options to buy items from Xbox LIVE Marketplace.

The 2-year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract uses only credit cards as the payment option. The other payment options like Debit Cards, Prepaid cards and PayPal are not valid for this subscription. However, you can change your payment to another credit card.

If it is before the end of the two years and there is no credit card associated with your account, it is assumed you have terminated the subscription, and you will be charged an Early Termination Fee and any applicable taxes.

It is easy to edit your payment options on your console or at Xbox.com

    Steps to Follow

Add or change a payment option using your console

    1) Use your Xbox LIVE gamertag to Sign in.

    2) Proceed to Settings and then select Account.

    3) Select Manage Payment Options, and then choose either of the following:
    • If you want to add a new credit card, select Add Credit Card.
    • If you want to use your PayPal account on Xbox LIVE, select Add PayPal. You will be required to enter your PayPal username and password. Follow the instructions to add PayPal as a payment option. You cannot use PayPal as a payment option for the 2 year Xbox LIVE Gold Contract. PayPal is not available in all regions.
    4) After making changes to payment options, select Update Payment Option.

Add or Change a payment option on Xbox.com

    1) Go to My Account.

    2) Select Payments and Billings and click on Manage Payment Options.

    3) You may be required to Sign in using your Microsoft account (email and password).

    4) Proceed to do either of the following:

If you want to edit a payment option, select Edit.

If you want to add a payment option, you can do either of the following:
    • Click on Add New Credit Card and enter the credit card information
    • Click on PAY with PayPal and follow the instructions.

    Xbox payment options

You can not transfer money to his account to purchase gold membership with as currency in your account can not be used for purchasing gold membership. You will have to use a bank account/credit/debit/paypal for this purpose. You can also use a prepaid code
card that you can buy at a store in the gift card section (that says 1, 3, 6 or 12 months) to pay for gold - but note that paid subscriptions and prepaid code cards can NOT stack, so you will have to wait until the paid subscription runs out to use the code
    card.

I would suggest stopping auto renew here
    https://account.microsoft.com/services/
and then removing the payment option here

    https://account.microsoft.com/billing/payments
(must be done in that order) and then buy prepaid code cards for him to use once the subscription ends.

You CAN purchase gold for him and gift it to his account via the gifting option when buying gold on the website here, also:
    Xbox Live Gold | Xbox

Also, you can keep your bank info on the child's account but you should put a passkey on the account to prevent unauthorized purchases, just in case:

    http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-one/security/prevent-unauthorized-purchases
This will require a passkey before any purchases are made.

Thanks for your reply. My concern was that the wording of the guidance seemed to imply that if I removed the bank account details from the child account his subscriptions would immediately stop. I'm assuming that this is not the case and will simply need
renewing when they expire. I must say I am finding the security shockingly poor. Now I have set up restrictions my son has asked for extended time to play and all he had to do was grab my phone and reply to the email sent to me. Not only could he give himself
more time but is taken to my settings page where he simply deleted his profile and all the restrictions. It seems crazy to me that there is no login needed to do this. I now have to keep my phone on me at all times and remove email software from all our computers
so he can't see my emails.

For billing issues, I find it easier to contact support on the phone when online options don't seem to be working.

    -

You can click the support link at the bottom of Xbox.com, then the contact us link that shows up to see if you can get a call back from support to avoid sitting on hold. Or you can click here for the support number in your region:
