Xbox Originals - Microsoft brand drive only way?

OK so I have an Xbox 360 E with the 4 GB flash drive. I bought a 3rd party drive (cheaper than the Microsoft sticker). I have the disc of 2 my Xbox games. Both are on the list, but one of the disc(not sure on the other) will not play on my counsel. I get
that the game needs downloaded again error(with a disc?!?) So I bought & downloaded the digital version, same error and problem. From reading here I see that I HAVE to have a Microsoft HDD?!?! Is this legit? If so is there any way I can get the firmware for
my 3rd party drive??? Otherwise I say this is complete BS on Microsoft for being such sticklers like this.

Only the Original Xbox games specified
here can be played on an Xbox 360 using a Microsoft Brand hard drive.

The most common problem is either with the game and/or the hard drive.

For example, some original xbox games are able to be played.

The problem with the hard drive is the it can only play original xbox games if your xbox has a Microsoft brand hard drive.

BTW I have tried the clear cache option twice. I've also re-downloaded the games 3 times on one and twice on the other. Only troubleshot I've not tried was to make sure I have the current update. So in other words I've been doing my research on this issue.

Sorry but you must have an official Microsoft hard drive to play original xbox games.

 

The firmware that is needed to play Xbox Original games is proprietary information that is registered to the Microsoft Corporation itself. As such they are under no obligation to share out the programming to 3rd party developers.

Any original game requires an official hard drive for the console in order to play. This is something that 3rd party sellers do not tell you in order to take advantage of the consumer.

 

So there's no way to copy the needed firmware from a Microsoft drive then? Or ask it from Microsoft directly?

Well that just freaking SUCKS. Now I've got to shell out more money just to play those games. So I'm guessing even to play those games via the disc I'll have to have the Microsoft hdd also?
