Xbox Original Won't Load Discs

My xbox original (yes, from 2001) won't load any discs. No error message; it's like it doesn't recognize a disc is even in. When the tray closes, it begins to whirl for a second like it should, but it quickly dies down. It tries this two or three times
before it gives up. I cleaned off the DVD laser, and that didn't change anything. Has anyone heard of this, or know how to solve it? Or has a part gone bad?

Sounds like the laser eye might have went bad.

 

What model DVD Game drive. (Thomson, Toshiba Samsung ver A, Samsung B ver, Phillips, Hitoshi) Never mind my spelling.

Will the drive spin up the disc? (You can hear it spin up if it does) If not, replace the laser assembly.

If so it could be many things including the laser, wormgear, motor, board etc.
