Xbox ONEX sleeps starting Overwatch trial instead of disk

I had an Xbox One, but recently upgraded to a one X. The day I loaded up my Overwatch OE disk, the game launched and immediately gave me the “play trial or buy the full game” overlay.

I’ve reset my console, removed and re-added my account, and a plethora of other solutions offered by the internet and Xbox support themselves. I don’t think anything’s wrong with the disk as it worked fine on my Xbox One 3 hours prior to failing on the X.
I’m frustrated and have no intention of buying the full game digitally when I’ve already bought it physically twice. So what’s going on?

Thanks for reaching out to the Forums for advice on how to try and resolve this issue.

I can see how getting an error like this could get really frustrating.

If you haven't yet, I would suggest uninstalling the game and reinstalling it through the disk as outlined in our

Uninstall Xbox One games or apps to free hard drive space

When you get a chance, give that a shot and let us know how that helped.

try another disk to see if the problem isn't the reader

Have you tried another disc with that xbox? It could be that the one X you have might have a bad disc reader and simply isn't detecting the disc

I found another discussion for this, and there are multiple answers, but the one I see the most is to change the setting on your xbox to "play disk automatically". This will force the xbox to read the disk first, before internal storage, which is where it
is reading the free trial from. Hopefully this helps!

The thing is, thats already checked. It still does the trial thing
