Xbox One's Wifi Direct security implementation?

I just discovered that Amazon added Wifi Direct to the FireTV-it didn't have it originally-and that apparently wifi direct devices are always broadcasting a wifi network. Wifi direct uses WPS, which is completely insecure, and the FireTV just sits in a
pairing mode all the time-a gigantic security risk.

I realized that my Xbox One uses Wifi Direct also, BUT is has a pairing button on both the console and the controller.

I'm HOPING that since it has an explicit pairing (or "syncing") button, that that means that normally the wifi network it's creating is impenetrable. Like it must also be broadcasting a network, but unless you're actually using those buttons, that it is
NOT using WPS...I hope.

Does anyone know for sure? I'm going to have to give up my FireTV because of this, but I sure as heck don't want to give up my Xbox! :-D

xbox one controller on xbox 360

I have been reading that the xbox one controller uses wifi direct to connect to the one. Will there be an update to the xbox 360 console's software to support wifi direct so we can use the xbox one's controllers on the 360 also? It would make it way more
convenient to be able to use the one's controllers on both consoles and help clean up clutter (controllers, batteries, chargers, and quick charge cables) around our entertainment centers. I am sure a lot of us would appreciate the effort since we have to keep
both consoles to enjoy the new catalog of exclusive games, and the games we have now. Thanks....

WiFi Direct and standard WiFi are two different things. Hooking up other devices to your Xbox One using WiFI Direct shouldn't have any impact on your WiFi Internet connection.

 

I know this doesn't answer your question but personally I prefer running my console wired. That way you would not have to give up your xbox even if the answer to your question is not the one you are wanting.

 

Hi, I prefer a wired connection too, but with your xbox, unless you hit the WPS on both devise with in a certain time it will not setup a connection, or you can just set it up manually. It is perfectly secure as any wifi connection is. all this button does
is make it easier for you to connect. no one without direct access to your router will be able to connect to your xbox using this button.

You should be able to go into the network settings on your xbox one and select your network SSID from the list of available networks then enter you wireless password and connect to your network. You should not have to use the WPS approach.
