  1. Xbox One's Previous Issues: Questions from a prospective Xbox One Gamer

I've owned both systems this generation, at the start I used Craigslist or other methods of trade to try out both systems. Recently I hit a financial rough spot and had to sell all my gaming systems, but I'm now in a position to buy one of them back. The
problem is I'm not quite sure which to buy. Obviously this seems like an odd place to ask this question, you would think the answers would skew towards Xbox, but really I want to ask about some small things that added up to an Xbox One that just didn't quite
seem ready back when I originally owned it. Currently I believe that Xbox has the best exclusives available, but if these issues are still big ones I'm not sure I can take the plunge. Thanks for all your help!

1.) Is there still no option fto adjust TV aspect ratio repair? My TV doesn't have anything to help this and previously I had an issue of enough of the screen hanging off, no matter my adjustments, that it made Project Spark unplayable as half the words
    were missing.

2.) Do games till take a long time to install and do they frequently stop at 1%? I had constant issues with this it seemed.

3.) Does the UI still frequently freeze or crash? Granted I had a used system and it had a Kinect, so I'm not sure what that played into it, but I do know that the UI seemed really buggy.

I'd love to hear from everyone, especially former or current PS4 owners on how your experience stacks up. I love the exclusives and really would like to enjoy them.

    :)

  2. Backwards Compatibility question.

With all the hype about the Xbox One getting Backwards Compatibility I'm curious about something. Everybody's saying you can use the discs, or previous Digital downloads. But no one's actually said if you could BUY the Compatible 360 games from the Xbox
    Store for download.

Xbox One's Previous Issues: Questions from a prospective Xbox One Gamer

Hello. We can certainly try to answer your questions without introducing too much bias. Xbox One's Previous Issues: Questions from a prospective Xbox One Gamer :)

I am not 100% sure about #1. It's not something I've looked for and I don't currently have access to a console so I cannot be sure.

#2. Games (from disc) get "stuck" at 1% because they're not actually installing at this point. What they are doing is downloading title updates, which means the percentage does not go up for a long time while it completes that download. When you insert a
disc, you will now be prompted to take the download. If you want to download the update, it will do this first as usual. If, however, you want to install the disc first you can decline it and the installation progress will purely be for the game's installation
and you can take the update later. You can also achieve this by disconnecting the console from Live and installing the disc while offline, connecting to Live afterwards to take the update.

#3. It's getting better, but it does still happen sometimes. If you are getting frequent freezes, the best suggestion is to power cycle the console completely (support.xbox.com/.../power-cycle-console)
which will usually prevent this from happening - at least for a little while it should be behaving better.

Let us know if you have any further questions about the console, we're happy to answer.

  5. Thanks Maxen. I have to say thus far the community alone is encouraging, I've gotten constructive feedback with almost no fanboy nonsense. I really appreciate it. Do feel free to persuade me either way though!

My limited experience of it means I can't speak much for PlayStation, but the community here is pretty cool.

Both systems have their pros and cons in terms of hardware and software, and what it often comes down to for people is a) which platform has an exclusive they want to play or b) where their friends are.

I wouldn't feel right trying to make the decision for you, but any questions you have about Xbox or Xbox Live I can definitely try to answer.

Hey Ninja! I can confidently say the community here is outstanding, most people are here because this is the platform they've decided best fits their need, without a lot of bickering and "my motherboard is bigger than yours" nonsense. And we have plenty
of opportunities for feedback and to help contribute to the betterment of the console (through things like the Update Preview team and the Xbox Ambassadors, who are always looking to help in any situation.)

From a personal experience standpoint, I can't say much to the current Playstation console, Xbox won me over with exclusives and performance back when I got rid of my PS2 and I've been with Xbox ever since. I did love my PS2, I just love my Xbox more. Performance-wise,
you'll get a lot of debate between the system "die-hards," and while there are pros and cons based on the specific nuts and bolts of each system, I can say that the resolution difference, for me, is indistinguishable (you can look up videos that do a side-by-side
comparison) and many dual-platform games look just as good, if not better on an Xbox One, even if they're at a lower res.

I will also say, there are a number of good impartial videos out there (done by 3rd party review sites like GameSpot) showing frame rate comparisons between consoles, too, especially on newer releases. This is where a good gaming experience really lives
    - if the framerate chugs, you won't have as good of an experience, regardless of whether the resolution is at 900 or 1080. Look up the comparison vids for Assassin's Creed Unity and Advanced Warfare, you'll see what I mean. I'm not saying this from a "fanboy"
perspective, frankly, I'm just in it for games, regardless of which system they're on. But the performance videos were a big surprise to me.
