Xbox One's Parity Clause

The HBO Go app may not be available now, but it's already been announced to be coming to the Xbox One.

What did I gain? I gained the annoying "Help" Snap not popping up anymore. No Kinect, no voice commands, no Snap popping up, no annoyance.

If you want to keep using that article as fact then you're going to need to figure out which spin you'll put on it.....Do you believe the "flexible memory" explanation? Or the "future proofing" explanation?

I find that to be a strange app to take so long to get to the next gen consoles. Game of Thrones has made it a necessity so not sure why HBO is dragging their feet.

 

There is a history of feet dragging, look how long it took to get hbo go on the ps3...

 

It really can depend on what Microsoft want to do. Look at how long it took for the BBC iPlayer to hit the 360 because of Microsoft policies.

 

They both have the flexible memory future proof option on both consoles. Still doesn't explain why Sony does so little with the reservation. Sounds like your kinect needs calibration. So can we agree that the PS4 having a better GPU is also bunk?

Like I said I'm a PC gamer, I didn't buy either console based on the hardware specs. I bought them for the games that I can't get elsewhere and it's why I own both rather than just one.

My interest in the actual numbers is more curiosity to satisfy my inner geek. How much of the allocated resources is the OS actually using? How much of the allocated resources are the developers actually using? Answering those questions can give us a look
into the future of what we can expect.

Consoles aren't upgradable so it is what it is. But like you said if Sony is actually using 3.5 where's it being used? Where is either guy grabbing this extra 1G from for flex? Is the hardware on both systems actually sufficient and it's the developers not
using it or optimizing for it?

Anyone gaming on a PC can throw up Task Manager or any of the third party apps to see where the bottle necks are, see if a game is poorly optimized or see the allocated resources at boot. Problem with the console is we have to take the companies word for
it or that of some "insider". Numbers don't lie so if I can see them I'll believe them.

My Kinect was calibrated dozens of times. I just got tired of all the unintentional Kinect related TV channel changing, Snaps, etc. Maybe I mumble, maybe the acoustics in my house, who knows but just the fact I couldn't say the word Xbox while on the phone
without my Kinect causing my TV to do something was enough reason to get rid of it.

 

Well, I'd simply like to comment on how much this thread has "evolved" since it's inception. I find it very interesting. We covered the clause, indie games vs. AAA games, the typical console comparison and their graphical differences, the Kinect, the snap
features, and so on... I never expected that. While there's a bit more of the console comparing than I would like, I'm enjoying this discussion overall. What else do you guys have to throw into the mix?

I honestly think this anti-comparison theme that occurs in this forum is self defeating to the people that only own the Xbox platform. I fully understand keeping the troll threads out but when the people here take the bait every time it's hard to be sympathetic.

Ignoring what's going on elsewhere whether it be the PC, PS, Wii, Amazon Fire doesn't stop it from impacting you. Microsoft appears to be more receptive lately in listening to gamers so knowing what's available on other platforms is the first step to improving
the One.

Rather than looking at it from the viewpoint of if the One doesn't have it, it must be bad and not worth having, do some research. Maybe it's something that people do want whether it be a game, a feature, accessory and then ask for it, that's how consoles
evolve and improve.

Have to agree with that Randver. I don't mind the discussion. But I still don't object to this Parity clause.

 

Frankly I'm sick of Console War type comparisons being snuffed out. They make for some of the most interesting and honest discussions around.
