Xbox One's Parity Clause

Funny, all over the internet I see gamers complaining that the other console doesn't have this "media" functionality, or this "particular" app, or this "functionality"...did they all buy it for bare bones, only games? Because I see a large voice (Polygon,
Joystiq, IGN forums) screaming for more "bloatware".

What's bloatware to me and what's bloatware to you or anyone else is dependent on what you're using the console for.

I don't use the Kinect, DVR features, Snap, etc so it's bloatware. If you use those features it's not. It's no different than buying a Toshiba laptop and choosing the use the installed Norton AV, if you don't use it, it's bloatware.

Downside to the One is I can't remove it but then again since games are designed specifically for the platform the resources allocated to those items have already factor into the game development so I won't see a performance increase......it's just make
things "messy". If you saw my PC you'd understand why tiles moving around on the One Home screen drives me nuts.

Apps aren't bloatware. We have a choice to install or not install.

If I bought a console for apps I'd be upset with both of them for not having HBO Go so I can see people calling out for more apps if that is their only means of using them.

I don't see anyone asking for a Kinect or the ability to play their TV through their PS4.

 

Yet they can't make enough PS cameras they sell out so fast??

 

Sorry Snap isn't bloat ware and the game dvr? really? You know PS4 has one of them also. None of the things slow the game down and as for the allocation of the Resources for these features its using less than the PS4 uses and it does less. So whos software
is Bloated?

 

OH and im Pretty sure I read Sony are looking into Streaming TV services also. Why if no one wants it for that?

Snap works by magic and doesn't use any resources? Game DVR on the One loads at boot which is how we get "clips". Doesn't on the PS4, I have to load it, which I don't.

As far as the resources used by these features on each device I'd love to see where you have found this info because I can't find it. Can you link it? That topic has been debated since launch and I keep hoping someone will tear apart their consoles, do their
geek stuff and give us the numbers. Apparently someone did?

Streaming TV doesn't involve me plugging my TV into my PS4, they are going to charge for it so it looks to be some type of On Demand type thing.

People are buying them for the picture in a picture DVR deal, they apparently think people actually watch their videos and want to see their ugly mugs.

 

You mean for Twitch streaming, right?? I am deviating from the original topic, so I will just bow out by saying that I believe there is some sort of untrue myth out there that PS gamers only want a console that exclusively plays games only, and does little
else (Or nothing else)...many of them want all the media functionality they had last generation (all the media apps, dnla, audio cd's, and now cameras for twitch streaming), so MS is not the only console maker "broadening the scope" of what a console can do.

 

My laptop is a Toshiba and I spent half the first day I had it uninstalling all the extra tat I wouldn't use. So I can definitely understand why people wouldn't like having features on their consoles that they aren't going to use.

Rand it right though that what is bloat to one person is not to another. I couldn't image having my 360 without the iPlayer, yet I'm sure there are folk out there who think it is an unneeded addition to a games console.

It's not for Twitch streaming, it's for part of the "Share" feature. I don't use it or plan on using it so I don't follow it very closely.

Apparently the next update is going to allow for parties to see each other while playing games. Anyone who remembers the 360 camera and the Uno problems, I can see it getting creepy just like that.....

 

I like little and big developers alike. If they change it allow afther with exculedus content. I would lived with this cluases.

 

How is a software feature like snap bloat? I never said it didn't use resourses, so I don't know where you got that from but the snap feature us how you can access achievements/party/etc. Much like the old guide window and also allows access to things previously
you would have to exit the game to access, a much hated functionality of the 360. All I'm saying is what functionality similar to this is the PS4 using to warrant using more of its memory for system resources than Xboxone

And also Xboxone's clips are loaded via an app not from boot. You basically are only loading a thumbnail of a clip

I don't Snap anything so for me it's bloat, it's actually the reason I disconnected my Kinect, Help would snap on a regular basis and I could never figure out why. Apparently I say something that sounds like "Xbox Help".

The One DVR feature loads at boot, it's why I have clips recorded while playing Horizon 2 without any input from me.

I've read the article you linked....it's pre-launch and was proven inaccurate. Article got the information from a "well placed source". I have yet to see anything that shows actual resource allocation on boot for both systems, I'll assume neither company
wants us to see it. I find it strange no one has looked into it considering every other aspect of both consoles has been benched.

 

All the pre launch talk of what type of GPU is also not proven yet people still quote it's lack of power to this day. Never saw an article disproving this so I'll just use it as fact like everyone else does.

Disconnecting kinect has nothing to do with snap, so I don't know what you gained there.
