Xbox One's missing functions

After having had a solid six months to get to know the new console, it's becoming more noticeable; the functions missing in the X1 compared to the 360. Any one would be a minor issue, but when you look at all that Microsoft left on the cutting room floor
it becomes a stark contrast, and leaves one with the sense that they paid $400 for a lesser console. Please, if I am mistaken and any of these applications are already in the Xbox 1 please correct me and tell me how to use them.

-- Voice messaging was the first for me to notice because I used it so frequently on the 360. It's so much easier than typing a text message, especially since X1 has no type pad, and has been missed.

-- I finally got around to using my Xbox to play music and was disappointed that I could not rip songs from my disc to the console's hard drive.

-- Neither can I play music while gaming on my console; not with a disc in the console or with Xbox Music playing. I used to do it all the time on the 360.

-- There is no default setting from what I could find to make party chat go through your TV speakers.

-- One hardware related issue I've noticed is the lack of accessory items. There doesn't seem to be a type pad or a wireless headset.

I'm sure there are more, and two others (game browsing and custom profiles) seem to be getting implemented this November, which is great. I'd like to think these are all things Microsoft plans on bringing back in the future, although I'm not sure why they
weren't there from the start (time constraints perhaps). If anyone else has information on the above issues I would love to read about where they are or when, if ever, they will be implemented. Has anyone from Microsoft acknowledged their absence or given
any statements on the matter?

Hey Apone 1337, you're not missing anything, there's no voice message function in the Xbox One's UI.

The Xbox one's kinect won't spy on you, and now the new kinect does not have to be plugged in for the Xbox One to function. Hope this helped

Oh I am a patient person when it comes to these things. I love my Xbox and am willing to work with Microsoft and give my feedback. In some cases, though, you do have to ask or you will not receive, if you get what I mean. I have faith that there are Xbox
employees who do read these posts for customer input.

 

These are all issues I knew over a year ago BEFORE the console even released. After having it for 6 months, you're just now noticing all of this? If you're really that oblivious, then I think you'll be okay.

In any case, instead of thinking about all of the things that it still doesn't have, try thinking about all of the things it didn't have that were added back since release and/or improved. It'll help put your mind at ease.

 

@ the Mota Boy. Yes, it's still missing alot of stuff that people really want.... Which is a shame. On the bright side though, ms are adding a ton of thing's each month, most of it is pointless crap but you just never know what they will add next.

 

I think you're focusing on the pointless details of my introductory clause, Galactic; not the issues at hand. If you want to get into the minutia of it, though, I noticed most of these in June when I was first able to get my console (with the exception of
music ripping; I found that out earlier this month). Pardon my verbose language. I merely wanted to lend some credibility to the point that I am not running out to these forums on day one to spam hate messages, but reflecting thoughtful, constructive feedback.

At any rate, the time it took me to notice these absences should not matter. I'm not mad at anybody or in need of consolation. I appreciate all the new things Microsoft is doing with Xbox. I'm just giving my two cents on the features they cut that I personally
miss. Microsoft has always been very responsive to the opinions of their customers and I respect them for that.

 

There are only 3 missing major Xbox Live Features remaining for Xbox 1 I'd say.

2 of them will be resolved when the November Update comes out for everyone: Change the Dash background, and Bio location returning to your profile.

That leaves only 1 remaining for me: Voice Messaging. True Xbox 1 has different audio codec to Xbox 360, but it is an Xbox Live Feature, over 3k peps have voted for it on the official site (remember, Microsoft DOESN'T need 50% of everyone on Xbox 360/Xbox
1 to pass a vote, 3k peps are important to M), and well it may not be sound to check and exchange voice messages between 360 and Xbox 1, it is possible between Xbox 1 console and Xbox 1 console, since all Xbox 1 consoles have the same audio hardware and OS.

Remember what Xbox 1 was like 22/11/2013... it had hardly any of the Xbox Live Features from Xbox 360. Today, it has much more features thanks to Updates.

2. Dolby support

3. Recent Players

4. Improved friends management, including the addition of a Friends tab on the Home Dashboard, similar to 360's Social tab on the Home Dashboard.

5. And other things too, and it hasn't been 12 months yet since Xbox 1 was released. So no one should say M is ruling out having Voice Messaging. The fact that there pretty much has been Updates practically every month for the system and features from 360
brought back, goes to show M IS listening and does care about feedback.

 

Smileskybird, I was wondering about the bio. Will they bring back gamerzones too? A mostly useless feature, I know, but I liked having "Underground" below my gamertag.

 

Not sure about gamerzones. But the ability to have bio's back and can view which country others are from without having to "research" or ask them, is a plus. So is changing the Dash background. When Bio's return you could just write gamerzone Underground
in it and be creative with your bio if you want. And hopefully you can have at least the same amount of txt space in your bio as in the Xbox 360 (eg 100 words or 10 lines or something like that). You can adjust who you want to share your Bio with under your
Privacy Settings (eg. everyone, friends only, no one).

 

well they will work on it at their own pace if we like it or not, sure we can make them go faster, but i don't like people rushing things

 

Hey Mota...the things that bother you r not game breaking. The box can do more than any other console when it comes to media. I get that ur not happy. Your concerns, while genuine, are not something that is game breaking. And as far as I can tell, not lacking...they
will be here soon. Enjoy your gaming man, or come here and be angry...

 

The XBOX One was a rushed console. I honestly think Sony caught them off guard when they announced the PS4. I think the XBOX One wasn't probably going to be released until the 2014 holiday season.

 

Some stuff is confirmed to be coming. Taking screenshots and being able to set defaults for certain game types being 2 things that are confirmed.

I'm more interested in new stuff personally - things we've not had before. We know they'll add all of the features from the 360 eventually, except maybe CD ripping as demand for that probably isn't very high. I'd like to see speech to text for sending messages.
I'd like to see them expand on the universal remote features. I'd like to see live tiles.

What would be cool in the long term, is if part of the main Home screen could be customised, so you could pin apps to that screen that have live tiles, so if you want weather, news, or whatever, you can pin them and they'd have live tiles giving you a summary
of the info you want to see, just like in Windows 8.1. Even just having that in the regular Pins section would be OK. I think they should add folders for pins too.

I would say though, that we're at the stage now (at least with the November preview update) where the console is starting to live up to its name as being the one entertainment device you need. There has never been an OS on a console that's as good, or as
feature packed, as this.
