Xbox One's Media Player App is complete crap

I have tried every solution to try and be able to stream from my computer to xbox one. I have my console connected straight to my router, as well as my PC, made a homegroup and put my video files (1 .mkv and 1.mp4) in the video folder under the homegroup
tab in windows explorer, tried hard resetting my xbox, turning off my firewall, and still nothing works. I am trying to stream .mkv since the console won't read it via USB, and it keeps saying files not found in folder. My console pics up my pc, as well as
plex. plex finds the videos, but does not support .mkv

this is really starting to tick me off. need help with this

    :)

I can tell you how do it. Others may be able to give you a better way.
Enable media sharing in media player. Download a upnp/dlna app (I use one for android called bubble upnp, it's great) for your smart phone or tablet. Use the app to browse the media on your computer and push it to the xbox one.

I can stream mp4's and mkv's on the media player.

    1. try renaming the files. sometimes when they're too long they don't show up or won't show up until i rename them.

    2. try with wifi instead of hard wired

    3. you have to go into network and sharing settings and give the xbox one pemission to to view your pc media library.

    4. try different files. go on youtube and download an mp4 and put it on your usb stick and try it.

Tried wifi the first time. Xbox one has permission, and you can't play .mkv from a usb. Also the video file is just named apes.mkv

My MKVs work when they're on a USB stick. Run your mkv file through a program and find out what the video and audio codec is. Mine are MPEG2 for video and some kind of 2 channel stereo. If you're trying to play files with Dolby 7.1 I don't think it will
    work.
