On the xbox one I am able to connect to xbox live and join parties but am unable to play any games online

Its always worth getting an extended warranty IMO. Especially for first-gen electronics like the X1.

Also if you haven't already done this , reset modem and router and clear the alt mac address on your xbox one (go to settings>network>advanced>alt mac address>clear>restart )
