My thoughts are that they should have waited and released a next generation Xbox rather than another incremental upgrade to the Xbox One.

There is little point to the console if it isn't going to be able to use its power to its fullest potential because its games are also going to have to run on the base Xbox One.

I couldn't care less what it looks like. People who do deserve a slap lol, but seriously are you getting it to play games or stare at it? It's 2017 and no one cares what your set-up looks like. It's not 1996 anymore where you had to have your tv, stereo
system and dvd player and game console all looking cool in a cabinet.

Personally I think it looks cool, but then again I don't care. At least it's not white.

First world problems are great though.

  3. ^Truth... I got my "S" just before last Christmas (on sale) so that my wife and I can game together. I ****ing hate that Robot White color. It's about as opposite of everything else in our LR as it could be. But it's funny how little attention I pay to it
while I'm gaming... it's almost as if I don't even bother to look at it. Wait, that's because I don't.

I mean yeah, it'd be nice if we could do the whole Xbox design lab thing with consoles just like we can with controllers, but we can't. It used to bother me a lot more than it does now, maybe I'm a bit OCD that way. But I came to the same conclusion. I play
games on it. If it honestly bothered me that much to look at it, there are places in my setup where I could hide it or at least make it less conspicuous.

Yes, it's 2017 and I care what my setup looks like! XBOX ONE X :p

Given that I have my [white] PS3 and my [white] One S and my [white] X360 all proudly displayed on [white] melamine cabinets, I guess it speaks to being obsessive-compulsive - or just stupid. I'm happy that the majority are more than pleased that One X is
*not* white, but I'm also happy to sit back and wait for a hardware revision that perhaps isn't black. Whether or not this happens is another thing entirely, and it's hardly encouraging that Sony haven't given their swathe of PLAYAZ the choice either - word
is that only one in five have bought the Pro!

There's nothing wrong with my One S at the minute, and it looks GORGUSS right where it is! And yep, I often glance at it while I'm playing because... obsession. I should also point out that a new console purchase is entirely discretionary, and given that
I don't own or use a tablet or smartphone, I have every right to be fussy before handing over more money for something that isn't exactly needed at this time. What *is* needed is a bunch of Xbox exclusives to compete with the other side. I'm not saying they're
game changers, but where's OUR equivalent of Detroit: Become Human, or The Last of Us, or Death Stranding?

Why couldn't we get a Quantum Break 2, or ReCore 2 or something that *isn't* shared with the other side (a la Anthem)? That's the only reason I'd look sideways at a new PS4 Pro.

  5. I like anything but white, could not believe X1S were 2T white first released two months before anything else.

I thought about a military green for a while, but did not bother once I found -30% drop on launch X1 model - made me purchase.

X1X - don't think so in a year or two - if ever.

I love the 360 and have plenty games I just started.

I play until I get to a situation I don't manage well, and put it on hold playing other stuff instead.

And when you have that many games it takes a while before you continue the same one again - even a year actually.

I am more likely to buy a backup 360 rather than anything else - I am not fond of X1 at all, the user interface is completely screwed.

It's like it's no more the best programmer crew on xbox - unbelievable decisions and UI scattered all over. Not at all the consistency as 360.

So I fear even worse things happening to X1X.

Recent things like this forum also make me believe it's all rookie programmers now on xbox - beyond comprehension how they release something in that state last fall, and still not work like it should.

It can take 30-60 minutes before forum thread list show last comment updated - this after 9 months out.

I hope I am wrong and the most experienced programmers work on X1X - and that is why the rest is rather poor.

And if X1X is improved about BC - and don't need to download full games digitally even having disks, like PC has compatibility settings - it would show craftmenship I look for - and I get X1X too.

I'm afraid buying a back-up 360 is no longer an option, as Microsoft has ceased production of the console.

Adding insult to injury, I recently tried firing up my pristine [white] X360 and it was displaying the dreaded RED RING!!! What in the actual?! I've only used it like a half dozen times since setting it up - itself a replacement for the 360 from before -
so it makes *no* sense that it suddenly gave up the ghost. First thing I did was check online to see if I could buy ANOTHER new replacement. Not even! You'd have more luck winning the lottery!

Apparently there's a way to 'fix' the problem, but I'm not sure whether it's worth it in the end (as I don't play on 360 any more). So now it's just taking up place on one of my gaming cabinets - it looks "new", but it's broken. Essentially it's a museum
piece, and that's why I'd sooner replace it with a [white] PS4 Pro than lament what's missing.

I have no issue *at all* with the Xbox One UI compared to 360 - in terms of applications, have you ever tried watching Twitch on 360? An absolute dog's breakfast, and good luck getting Mixer to run. These forums load fine for me, but you're right about the
backend delays... your post was made "38 minutes ago", but I never saw it FIVE MINUTES ago... until I logged in and was made aware of it!

No mention of VR. Big fail. Cant believe there was no mention of VR at E3. This move will cost sales. I was ready to pull the trigger on the new xbox based on the occulus rumors but now I will be waiting to see what PS5 will announce. Way to drop the
    ball.

Never noticed until after reading your post, so I pulled out the ol offset P2 and sure enough, the X1-X does share some similarities. Keene 'eye' you got there.

    It has rawr power.

-12GB GDDR5 @ 326GB/s bandwidth. And a plentiful 9GB of it, can be used for games, while 3GB is reserved for the system. That's far better than what I can say for the Ponies.

    - 2.3Ghz 8 core processor, that's better than the Ponies.

    - 4k native gaming

    - 4k Blu-ray player

    - 8GB flash which might be used to improve console boot times, because fact, HDD tech takes longer than SSD to boot stuff up. And only some people leave their consoles on 24/7/365.

    - It looks cute and is smaller than Xbox One S.

As for colour, I'm not really colour discriminate. I don't mind if it's black, as long as it looks good, and doesn't look like a VCR shoe box this thing my parents would have used. But manufacturers except Apple, are obsessed with making stuff black. My
    phone is white.

Games will look better on Xbox One X, even if game developers don't take advantage of the X. Just look at PC gaming. Game developers don't have a Super Duper Infinity Extreme Ultra to the Max, setting, in games, for expensive highest end PC hardware. They
only have Low, Medium, High, Ultra. Yet you'll see fps and texture and graphic improvements. This is due to the hardware, and it doesn't need updates from the game developer, to make it look/perform better. The same could be said for Xbox One X.

I like how Microsoft has Super Duper mode for 4k Minecraft on Xbox One X. I also like how Microsoft said that Final Fantasy XV will be Xbox One X Enhanced. Which means Xbox One X already has sparked interest from at least some game developers.

I also like how Xbox fans can now 'pie in the face' and bash Sony fans about how much better the X's specs are compared to their little toys. Because they have been bashing us for years going on about how Xbox is the weaker console. However, Microsoft has
'rolled up their sleeves' and 'crafted' a very interesting console, which I will be getting when it comes out 7/11/2017.

  10. You do realise that higher doesn't always mean better. There is a reason, as I've mentioned elsewhere, why the PC doesn't use GDDR as system memory. It has a higher latency and that means it can be slower at system related tasks, such as loading the operating
system, apps and programs, and yes it could even slow down the loading of games. This is after all part of why games on PC tend to be put into system memory (regular DDR) for loading rather than relying on the GDDR on the graphics card.

The extra power here will certainly help the games look fantastic on the X.B.O.X but if the backend isn't working as it should, then it could end up hurting the entire experience.

  11. I have a store here that have 5 units left, new ones, but about $200 in price.

Otherwise there are plenty used ones out there - $50-$100.

Correct me if im wrong but doesnt xbox 360 run on GDDR3 memory, yet the operating on xbox 360 performs much more fluid than the operating system on xbox one.

Xbox and PS use an AMD Jaguar APU (CPU and GPU on on chip thingy). Yes DDR4 may be better, but GDDR5 has the higher bandwidth. Its not like they can add a dedicated CPU/RAM with DDR4/GPU with GDDR5 on xbox as that may up the price of the console.

And a misspent youth helped a bit. Honestly, technically it's a great system with impressive power though I'm still happy with the day 1 xb1.

  14. No need for correction as you are correct, the 360 did use GDDR3 and that likely explains why the dashboard was prone to microstutter. You know those moments where you get the impression the console is thinking about something before actually doing it.

Microstutter is also something I find on the Xbox One and the issue I think is getting worse with each update, as the console is expected to do more in the background with each incarnation.

Which is why you shouldn't be completely happy about the switch to GDDR5. Yes it has a higher bandwidth than DDR3 and DDR4 but it also has a higher latency than either of them. It's good for shifting lots of data around but it simply isn't as good for those
    small tasks.

So if you think the Xbox One's dashboard isn't a smooth experience, then that higher latency of GDDR5 could actually make things worse in that regard.

I suppose the best way to put my issue across would be to point to servers and why they haven't embraced GDDR. Servers are required to do many small tasks over and over again, GDDR5 would be complete inefficient in that regard because of its higher latency.

To me, this push for 4K console gaming is as bad as the whole 3D push a few years ago. I'd be happier with 2K and a solid 60FPS. (maybe throw some HDR in there, and some slight ability to tweak some settings, nothing too crazy)
