    XBOX ONE X WON'T PLAY DVD (NEW FIX SEPT 2020)


    My Xbox one X would not play ANY dvd I tried after the latest update and would only display a black screen with no sound when I opened up the bluray app. I could not find a fix that worked online so I tried everything I could think of. Here is what worked
    for me.

    I unplugged the Xbox and rebooted, changed the consoles resolution to 720p, started the DVD just fine and while the movie was playing went into settings and changed everything back to 4K. Works every time now.

    Hi,

    Sorry about your problem there. I take it that normal DVD's won't play now either? If the answer to that is yes, then I'm afraid your console's Optical drive has a fault.

    There are two lasers in the Xbox One. The red laser is for DVD's and Xbox 360 game discs (360 games are on DVD) and a Blue laser for Blu-ray discs (Xbox One games are on BD discs).

    Unfortunately Microsoft no longer repairs the original Xbox One. Only the Xbox One S and One X can still be repaired. You'll need a new console if you want to play BC games on disc.

    Microsoft introduces "Smart Delivery" with the Xbox Series X, which means, that if you own an existing game (like Minecraft in your example, or Gears 5) or a new game comes out for Xbox One and Xbox Series X with improved graphics on Series X, you won't
    have to buy the game twice.

    With Smart Delivery you will play the "enhanced" version on Series X, and the "normal" version on Xbox One.
