Xbox One X won't load read discs unless I hard reboot if Energy Saver power mode is enabled

I didn't realize there was a December update. Maybe that's the update that caused the issue? I'm not sure. I was mostly playing digital games for the last couple of months and just recently tried a disc game.

I've already reported the issue using the method you described. I'll just wait for the next update. I don't think a repair is necessary. I'm out of warranty so I don't want to cover the expense for something that I don't think is hardware.

If it was hardware, I'd expect more unpredictable behavior (random disc read errors, having to reboot multiple times, etc.). But that's not the case. When I power on my Xbox One X, it will make normal disc access sounds, but won't launch the game. It is
always solved with one power cycle. I don't even have to eject the disc. Changing discs (games or movies) will also work fine.

It's now part of my routine: Turn on the Xbox, open the side bar, hit RB to get to the Settings tab, scroll down to "Restart" and reboot. When it's done rebooting, the game will launch with no problem. It's not ideal, but I can deal with the longer bootup
process so long as it will work every time.

I thoroughly read this post and thread and saw that you have performed a Power cycle, a soft reset and a full factory reset, as well as switching the power modes. I also saw that you said this issue started after the November update. So the update in December
did not help at all?

You can also report this problem using the Xbox Insider Hub app so we can investigate it further:

1. On your console, install the Xbox Insider Hub app (if you don’t already have it).
   
2. Hold down the Xbox button on the controller.
3. On the power menu, select Report a problem.

Describe the problem in detail, including when it happened, if you saw any specific error codes or messages, and if you were using any specific games, software, hardware, or accessories when you encountered the problem.

You can also looking into doing an offline system update or waiting until our next update to see if there are any changes. Worst case scenario you would need to set the console up for a repair.

power cycle
of the console. {Please make sure to plug in the PSU to the wall outlet}

If the problem persists, try doing a
soft factory reset of the console,
Reset and keep games and apps to help reset the operating system. Please note before doing this troubleshooting step, make sure to know your email and passwords for your Xbox profiles.

After I did a hard reboot to get the drive to work, I tested leaving the disc in and taking the disc out before shutdown. Both didn't fix the problem.

I did a reset with keeping apps and data and reset with delete everything. Both didn't fix the problem.

Only thing that fixes the problem is leaving the Xbox set to Instant-On, but I don't like it wasting electricity for days until I turn it on again.
