    Xbox One X won't boot and factory reset attempts do nothing


    Hello all,

    I have an Xbox One X that seems to have ran into an issue (hopefully not fatal).

    After attempting to power it on, the Xbox logo lights up for about 5 seconds, and turns back off (with the turn off chime).

    I've tried the factory reset steps with the USB to no avail (https://support.xbox.com/en-CA/help/hardware-network/console/reset-console-to-factory-defaults)

    Unplugged everything and plugged everything back in several times, but I never get anything on the display.

    There's a weird buzzing noise when the Xbox is plugged in to the power, so that's probably not a good sign.

    And sadly it's out of warranty since 2/5/2019.

    So I looked into servicing, and it's going to cost $340 CAD... No thank you.

    Any other suggestion on maybe reviving it that isn't going to cost me half the price of a new console?

    That cost it's for a replacement, not a repair, and because of the noise you mentioned seems to be the internal power supply, means that need to be repaired
    Makes sense Ricardo. Definitely might be the power supply unit.

    Unfortunately, the only option the Microsoft portal gives me is the replacement, you're correct. I'll see if I can get it repaired locally, since I don't really want to replace the unit... If I'm going to spend $300+, I'll buy a Series X or a PS5.

    So, unfortunately, the repair shop couldn't fix it. Something about the motherboard having some corrosion? Not sure I buy the repair shop story, but they couldn't fix it, end of story.

    I cancelled my Xbox Game Pass subscription, since there's no inventory anywhere for an Xbox Series X at retail price (I'm not paying $300+ over MSRP to scalpers).

    Kind of a sad day...

    Thanks for your input. Every manufacturer has issues, to be honest. I'm definitely a little shocked/disappointed that the only option Microsoft gives me is to replace the Xbox altogether (with most likely another refurbished unit). So I'm going to see if I can have it repaired locally, and go from there.
